Guest guest
Good morning, Terri! You're a great discussion starter! As a " conservative " dresser, I never thought that showing rolls of fat helped my appearance in any way. So I chose to wear things that were loose-fitting; overblouses not tucked in; dark colors; no belts. It will be interesting to see what I choose when I reach goal! I'll most likely still be conservative. Bette
Guest guest
Good morning everyone, I have a question for you all. I know from experience when we " feel " fat, we like to cover it up, probably wearing loose and even baggy clothes. As we lose the weight, we are braver, daring to wear more fitted clothes. Here is my question. Last night my dh and I were having a discussion about all the Atkins hype that seems to be everywhere, and the discussion lead to the kind of clothes people with a weight problem wear. For myself, the more I weighed, the more I covered up (I was not one of those women on Ricki Lake or Maury that think my rolls of fat were sexy and that everyone would want to see them). My dh, however, thinks that when overweight people dress loose and baggy, it makes them look even bigger. I know even when I was at my heaviest, 30 pounds ago, he still wanted me to wear things tucked in and more form fitting. I didn't because it was uncomfortable for me, but he thought it would make me look slimmer. What do you all think? I know this is not important in the scheme of things, but I thought it would be an interesting topic. Terri in WI
Guest guest
I think it depends on how over weight you are and how you carry your extra weight. If you are thick around the waist you can't get away with tight clingy shirts. If you have fat legs (like me) you shouldn't wear tight skirts that come above the knees. That doesn't mean that you have to dress in baggy clothes that are several sizes to large though. If you wear a shirt that's to big you'll end up looking like you could fit into a circus tent. I think there is a fine line between tailored clothing and tight clothing. Just because you are over weight doesn't mean you have to dress like a slob. If you are over weight but still have a good waistline and big boobs then wear something tailored that shows it off. If you have really large breasts and you wear a tight turtle neck it won't look as good as if you wore something low cut that shows some cleavage. That's a trick my friend taught me, if you heavy and you wear lower cut shirts it draws attention to your chest and face and then hopefully no one notices how big your butt is ;O) Kris _____ From: Terri Good morning everyone, I have a question for you all. Guest guest
Hi Terri, I think it depends on the individual and where most of the weight is sitting. I was always bottom heavy and so I would never wear tight fitting slacks or jeans. Mind you they wern't that awful loose looking kind either, but comfortable. I could wear tops that still looked pretty much not too badly. I wear more tapered clothes now. I am a sweather freak in the winter time, so I love looking good in them again. I have seen large women with nice clothes tucked in and looked good in them. I think you have to be comfy in your own right. I DO NOT like seeing a man or woman with a top or pants so tight that it all hangs out and I have seen a lot of people do it. But they must be ok with it I guess, like I said my thoughts are that it is an individual thing I guess. ..................................................................... Guest guest
I think that clothes that are tailored (not TIGHT) look the best. A big shirt and leggings makes you look like you are hiding something and does not usually hide as much as we think. A tailored and neatly fitting outfit is much more flattering. We have all done the big sweaters and everything, but I have seen myself in pictures in some of those things that I thought I looked good in - oh MAN! That was a reality check. SCARY! I also want to say that the nicer the clothes are the better. Huge Sweatpants and sweatshirts or big T-shirts many times make even thin people look frumpy and dumpy. ( I do not mean as far as the gym goes, I mean for everyday wear) Jenn ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Subject: wearing more fitted clothes Good morning everyone, Here is my question.
