I am now 5 days pot-op, and still have considerable swelling and

congestion. I find it so hard to eat and the ZipNSqueeze oder I made

10/25 was never put through. Luckily I e mailed then and they are fed-

exing me my order. It still takes a half hour to drink or squirt in

some soup. I am splinted and will be till 11/22 - a long time but my

surgeon says it is becuase of my advanced periodontal disease. I

can't talk and the roof of my mouth feels irritated and swollen, I

sleep only 2-3 hours at a time, then wake for 2 hours, then go back

to sleep. I will be out of work 3 weeks, which is a disaster. I get

sick time and disability but my boss is very annoyed that I did not

do this during summer vacation instead of this busy time in the

school year. Truthfully, I tried, but I wasn't ready - the docotr

said I would be ready in Octber, and a case of bronchitis (remnants

of which I still have) delayed surgery further.

I had a 6mm gap and the thought that I could have changed this by

changing my tongue thrust and avoided this makes me very depressed! I

did go for 3 opinions, and friends who are speech pathologists told

me I do not have a real tongue thrust although my orthodontist says I

do. I did have a large lower lip but really did not look bad at all -

everyone said " why are you having this surgery, you're beautiful

now! " -but initially felt I wanted to look better. Of course when I

heard about the future problems it became a functiona concern, and I

too am furious that many dentists just said " wow you have a bad bite "

without another word. Well, I did it and must make the best of it,

but the splint and the swelling especially are driving me nuts.

Surgeon says leave it alone, the swelling will go down in time, but I

hope when my ice jaw wrap comes, it will help.
