Guest guest
I certainly wouldn't recommend any " natural " diuretic to someone with kidney disease. I might recommend one to someone I would want to see on dialysis though! Seriously, I wouldn't play around with that stuff. If you need a diuretic, I'm sure your nephrologist won't mind prescribing one. They cost only pennies a day. Guest guest
Ali because I have a severe reaction to all diuretics my neph recommended me contacting a certified herbalist to talk about natural diuretics that are safe for the kidneys. I only needed to use them for a few weeks at the higher pred doses before my body regulated itself again and then I was able to stop. The one problem I haven't had is swelling except for the first few weeks on the high pred dose. I would recommed giving your neph a call and seeing about an Rx as the herbals need to be regulated closely by a herbalist...and defininately by one you trust. You can go toxic quick with the wrong stuff. I have been seeing my herbalist for over 8 years so when it came to finding something that would work for me at my current level of kidney function I trusted her to do so. Some foods like green cabbage and other members of the cabbage family like broccoli have diuretic properties....though cabbage needs to be eaten raw to keep it in the low potassium catagory. Good luck with the weight loss...I know how very frustrating it can be as I can't seem to lose a pound while on the pred. Guest guest
Hi Ali, I am so glad you are getting weaned off the prednisone, but as Pierre said, I definitely do not recommend natural diuretics nor any other herbal medication without consulting with your Neph. Many of them can be very dangerous to your kidneys. Sorry your creatinine went up. I had that experience on both Prednisone and Cellcept myself and it is always disappointing when a treatment did not result in the desired improvement. If you stick to the gym and are off the Prednisone, the weight will come off though. --- In iga-nephropathy , > diuretics/weight loss after prednisone > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > Does anyone have any recommendations for natural diuretics?
