Guest guest
Thanks Terri --- for the birthday wishes and all. I'm interested in what you had to say about free weights. My wife just got me for my birthday a " starter " free weight set-up - a bench w/ leg curl and arm curl attachments, a 50 Lb. dumbbell set, and a 110 Lb. barbell set. All my exercise has to date been aerobic - treadmill, bicycling, some running, some elliptical, .... As soon as this equipment arrives and as soon as our basement is finished (end of the month ???), I'm going to set it up down there and start using it. I've avoided weights thus far, because I thought I should lose the weight first - now that I'm getting close to my goal, I'm thinking I need to tone - particularly my abs. Any advice for a routine using these weights - # of times per week? low weight/high reps? or high weight/low reps? What should I expect in terms of weigh-ins as I add muscle? I'm just thinking I need to look a bit more tuned now that I'm at a more " normal " weight. I was really considering a home gym, but my wife felt it would take up too much room. This is the compromise --- but I think it'll work out just fine. Thanks, Mitch Terri wrote: > > > > > > Warm birthday greetings to Dorothy and Mitch! > > > Bette > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
A great tape/program for weight training (using free weights) is Power90 you may have seen the informerical on tv as well as they do have a great web site at www.beachbody.com It is a 90 day in house bootcamp... does have some cardio portion as well. Also the FIRM is great for incorporating weights too into an exercise program. Guest guest
There are some excellent books on home weight training. Weight training for Dummies is very very good, explains all about reps and what different words mean and how to get into a routine, plus it gives reps and the right way to do exercises etc. > Thanks Terri --- for the birthday wishes and all. > > > Any advice for a routine using these weights - # of times per week? > low weight/high reps? or high weight/low reps? Guest guest
Oh man I LOVE weight lifting! Having lost over 100 pounds I had wings on my skinny little arms. I wanted to fill that out, since snipping it off, or folding it in and taking a dart, just isn't an option. So I started a weight lifting routine and I really do like the way my arms look now. I always hated how my arms looked in sleeveless clothing, now I'm proud to say that they look muscular. You can tell, even at rest, that I work out. I haven't bulked up substantially, just added sme nicely placed bulges and definition. I do 30 minutes of arms every other day, and 30 minutes of legs on the alternate days (although I've started replacing that with another cardio because I find that biking really gives my legs enough of workout with the running and since I'm training for the triathlon, at least once a week I'll run my 3.1 miles or so, and then hop on the bike, or bike the 12 miles and hop on the treadmill). Two years ago I was a 222 pound couch potato. ~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~'~' Tory Klementsen, MCP A+ Career and Technology Educator www.teechur.com www.msteechur.com -The successful person will do the things that the unsuccessful person will not. > Re: Re: Birthday wishes / > Free Weights > > > Thanks Terri --- for the birthday wishes and all. > > I'm interested in what you had to say about free weights.
