Guest guest
Hi, Has anyone who lives in the US found a generic brand of minocycline that works as well or nearly, as the minocin? My new insurance doesn't cover the Brand. Thank you, Gloria
Guest guest
Gloria, I have been keeping track of feedback form our group on this issue. This feedback is sparse, but here it is: www.tmgp.com/generic-mino.htm Regards, Harald At 12:13 AM 2/12/2005 +0000, Gloria wrote: >Hi, >Has anyone who lives in the US found a generic brand of minocycline that >works as well or nearly, as the minocin? I have to agree. I used doxycycline for nine months, and never really felt a lot better, but it did get rid of the swollen glands. When I switched to brand name Minocin 3 months ago (a difference of a hundred dollars a month), I started improving almost immediately. Today I can actually bend my knees a little when I walk (haven't been able to do that in ages) and I can use my hands again for many things I haven't been able to do in ages. The difference in price is worth every penny. Jill
Guest guest
Hi Gloria! Geoff here. You asked: > Has anyone who lives in the US found a generic brand of minocycline > that works as well or nearly, as the minocin? My new insurance > doesn't cover the Brand. It's YOUR health. You might just have to step up to the bar and pony up the difference yourself. If you check out the FAQ and publications, you'll find the recommendation to use brand-name came only after experience with several thousand patients. Further research will reveal differences between brand-name and generics up to an allowable whopping 40% difference! I know that doesn't make the money any easier to come up with, but it may make it a little easier to part with. HTH Geoff
Guest guest
At one time, Dr. Mercola said that there was an effective, generic Minocin for AP, made by the same company who makes Minocin....and that this generic was available at Wal-Mart pharmacies. Is this no longer true? Peyton rheumatic Re: a brand of minocycline that works? > > Hi Gloria! Guest guest
Peyton, In his excellent paper " Physicians' Protocol for Using Antibiotics in Rheumatic Disease, " found at http://www.mercola.com/2000/aug/27/Rheumatoid Arthritis.htm, Dr. ph Mercola wrote: " Clinically it has been documented that it is important to take Lederle brand Minocin. Most all generic minocycline is clearly not as effective. A large percentage of patients will not respond at all or not do as well with generic non-Lederle minocycline. Traditionally, it was recommended to only receive the brand name Lederle Minocin. However, there is one generic brand that is acceptable, and that is the brand made by Lederle. The only difference between Lederle generic Minocin and brand name Minocin is the label and the price. The problem is finding the Lederle brand generic. Some of my patients have been able to find it at Wal Mart. Since Wal Mart is one of the largest drug chains in the US, this should make the treatment more widely available for a reduced charge. " At Wal Mart, the generic minocycline by Lederle cost $70 per hundred 100 mg capsules. Regrettably, in September 2001, Lederle announced that it would no longer sell the generic. The reason is that Lederle prefers to sell its brand name Minocin, which costs 4 times as much. ESI Lederle is a Division of Wyeth-Ayerst Pharmaceuticals, which in turn is a division of American Home Products Corporation (NYSE: AHP). Wyeth-Ayerst is one of the world's giant drug companies, with 40,000 employees and 40 manufacturing plants worldwide. It was the result of the merger of four companies: Wyeth Laboratories; Ayerst, McKenna & on, Ltd.; A.H. Robins; and Lederle Laboratories. Regards, Harald p.s. If any member of this group has had experience, either good or bad, with a non-Lederle generic minocycline, please email me, and I will add your input to my web page www.tmgp.com/generic-mino.htm At 02:28 PM 2/13/2005 -0500, Peyton wrote: >At one time, Dr. Mercola said that there was an effective, generic Minocin >for AP, made by the same company who makes Minocin....and that this generic >was available at Wal-Mart pharmacies. Guest guest
Merna, Thank for your input. I have added it to www.tmgp.com/generic-mino.htm Press the F5 key in Internet Explorer, or you will be seeing the old version cached on your hard disk. Guest guest
For those of you without prescription coverage, try purchasing Minocin off shore. The savings is considerable. Recently a patient received quotes from Sam's, Walmart's and two local drugstore chains ranging from $338 to $415 for 100 caps of Minocin 100 mg. She then tried www.canadianmedsusa. Their price was $158 plus S & H. Our government is trying to force Canada to stop filling U.S. prescriptions, but this company has arranged several other options.
