Guest guest
Thank you Don for the update, I bet she is so excited about being home. You mentioned about gas, do you know if she has tried Beano? I know it helped my hubby with his colosomy. Sandy Ronnie Grove back home Hello, everyone, I spoke with Ronnie by phone last evening. She is finally home, but not out of the woods yet. After better than 20 days in the hospital, the doctors were insistent on a stay in a rehabilitation facility. As you might expect, Ronnie said " no way -- no amount of rehab exercises will help my arm or leg, and I will be better at HOME! " . She must have someone with her full time. A large wound in her abdomen is being treated to heal from the inside out, and the dressing must be changed twice daily with close watch for infection. The colostomy is, as you would expect, another problem. There is a very thin line that must be walked in relation to diet, and that takes a lot of work. Right now there are a number of foods that she cannot handle, others that must be consumed in small quantities, and only a few that are " eat all you want " . When you look at the lists, just about everything can fall into categories that cause gas (not good), diarrhea (bad), or constipation (worse). So now the key word is " regulation " -- and Ronnie is the regulator, trying to figure out what can be eaton to work best with the colostomy. Ultimately the colostomy is expected to be reversed. As you might expect, she is very weak, and likely will take a few days to recoup a little energy before tackling her computer and the messages that may have sent. It is also likely that her server mail box is overflowing and messages have been bouncing, especially to Yahoo!, and we all know what that causes. She said that she was humbled with all the cards and notes that she received at the hospital. Even the nurses commented about all the FRIENDS she must have. She is very appreciative of each and every one. Ronnie will need a little time to regain some strength -- she will be back soon. Keep you in your thoughts and prayers. Guest guest
Don, Thanks so much for the update on Ronnie. She is a fighter so I just know she will eventually get back on her feet. Glad to hear that the colostomy will be revised sometime in the future. We will keep the cards coming and wait for her to get back on line............Hugs.Flora
Guest guest
Dear Don: Thanks so much for the update on Ronnie. I was so glad when I read the part that the colostomy will hopefully be reversed at a later date. I have a good friend who has a colostomy for roughly 35 years and I am well aware of the changes to be made to one's diet, and also the portion sizes. You have to be so careful. And we think we have it bad sometimes!! My heart goes out to Ronnie and I am hoping she feels better REAL SOON. WE REALLY MISS HER. Take care. Jo.
