Well said, Maureen.

I discovered that benefit too, when I began to use a cane regularly last

spring. I also discovered how wonderful most people are. And I no longer worry

they think I've had a little too much to drink, especially when I am in the

liquor store (LOL) or out for dinner.

Everyone accepted my using a cane when they saw I began to use it because OF

COURSE I needed it. Duh. It was me who resisted. It was partly

embarrassment that I needed help but also, it signified the truth - that I am

disabled -

and that's an identity issue that bites.

But it is what it is and we play the best we can. I need reading glasses so

I use them. I wear boots when there's snow outside and put on a coat when

it's cold. I go to the dentist and get my annual checkups. I eat healthy

most of the time (LOL) and exercise. And I use a cane. And I get pedicures -

such a delight!

best,

Kathi
