Guest guest
Just to let you know, I was on 10mg daily of lipitor and had all those chest pains too. Had to go and get all those heart tests too. My doctor now reduced my dosage to 10 mg M W F. I haven't had my cholesterol checked since but I hope it's in range so I can continue this routine. I still get some minor rib muscle pain, but I can live with it. > I went to the lab at my doctor's office about 5 days ago and had blood drawn for my cholsterol to be tested. Got a call back today from the nurse saying that my HDL was 57 (which I thought was good, but was told it's too low) and my LDL was 105. Now I am sorry, but I really do not think that is bad. I realize we are told to keep it at 100 or below, but the doctor immediately put me on Zocor. Months ago, I was on Mevacor and had problems. I felt heart pain a lot and even went and had tests done on my heart by a cardiologist. I was told that my heart was fine and I had cholesterol tests done and was told they showed nothing. Well, I read that the statins (of which Zocor and Mevacor are both part) cause problems with COQ10 (which gives heart pain when too low). I guess I am being extra cautious this time, but I really hate taking drugs for lowering cholesterol.
Guest guest
> What is the " minor rib muscle pain " that you have? Sometimes I have > that....but then, I did have half a rib cut out and a kidney removed. But > still, I am curious what causes " normal " rib muscle pain. > > Maralee > >^..^< There are actually very few things that cause intercostal (between the rib) muscle pain: 1. Coughing hard/a lot. You can actually tear muscles between your ribs this way. 2. Pleurisy. The lining around the lungs gets inflamed and it, the lungs and the backs of the rib muscles all rub together. Asthmatics can get this rather frequently. 3. Mis-aligned ribs. Basically squashing or over-stretching the muscles in between. Folks with the left/right form of scoliosis tend to get this problem frequently as the curving to one side compresses the ribs inside the curve and stretches apart the ones on the outside of it. 4. Your general getting smacked about/damage to the ribs or over-exertion. Naturally. Bang up or work any muscle too hard and it's going to rebel. 5. Bone spurs. Some people with chronic bone spur formation throughout the body will get bits of calcium deposit that will settle in the intercostal muscles causing pain as they rub against them. There are a couple of things that may sort of feel like rib pain when it isn't. Gall bladder infections can sometimes make it feel like a burning pain shooting up the ribs on one side or throbbing between the shoulder blades of all the weird places (totally different side of the body altogether). I understand certain inflammatory heart diseases sort of mimic pleurisy symptoms, too. But it's kind of a rare side effect and generally fairly late into the diagnosis. (IOW, you'd know about the heart condition LONG before that symptom came into play more than likely.) What you're getting as rib pain is probably a " phantom sensation " . It's not unusual for the places where body parts have been removed to have odd pains, tingling and/or throbbing. In some people it fades over time. But I've talked to amputees who are still having them 10-15 years after losing a limb. Try this for weird.... I get that kind of funky sensation in the back of my jaw where they had to take out a chunk of it to get out the one horizontal growing wisdom tooth I had. It almost feels " itchy " back there sometimes even though it's been about 13 years since it was done.. Aazari The Art of Jolie E. Guest guest
Excessive quoting manually removed by moderator. My doc is pretty sure the pain is due to the statin drugs. It's much more common than the drug companies claim. They cut my mom's lipitor in half due to the rub mucle pain. Rib mucle pain can also be from chonchoroiditis (not sure of spelling) and fibromalygia (not sure of spelling). > > > > What is the " minor rib muscle pain " that you have?
