Hi Rita,

A word of advice, don't let diabetes or all the information overwhelm you.

I just sent a message to a member giving him some hints, tips, etc for

handling diabetes. You may want to read that message. There is also a link to

the

Joslin Diabetes Center which has a world of good information.

If you haven't read that message, let me know and I'll resend it.

hugs

Eunice

Hi Rita! Welcome to this wonderful group. I'm new to the group too, was

diagnosed as " pre-diabetic " back right before Christmas--then, after scaring me,

my Doc went out of town for 3 weeks.

I'm 63 yo, was diagnosed with discoid (skin) lupus in my early thirties, had

brain surgery for an anuryesum discovered when undergoing an angiogram for

suspected plaque on my carotids. So, like , I feel blessed to be around

(even with my Type 2 diabetes scare!).

I exercise regularly. Have done weight resistant training at local fitness

centers 3 times a week, and try to walk a mile a day, even in winter. When I

retired I bought a horse, the fulfillment of a childhood dream, and she

certainly gives me an incentive to stay fit!

This group is a great source of both information and support. Welcome!

Hi Rita! I am Angelia, and I am 26 (will be 27 in July)

I am a mom, and wife, though I was a single mom for a long time before

getting married... so I feel for you!!!

Ask some questions, there is always someone here to answer... What kind of

stuff don't you understand or need to know more about??? I was overwhelmed

at first too... Most people are... so it is normal. Make up a list of

questions that you want to know answers to, and ask them... if needs be one

by one... =)

Two books: DIABETES FOR DUMMIES and DR. BERNSTEIN'S DIABETES SOLUTION.

Also, get into a Diabetes Education class at your local hospital or

county department of health.

Congratulations Nikki!!!! That is not far off! How exciting. Just keep thinking

positive. You will handle it much better and your body will heal faster that

way.

Best Wishes,

Shauna

There are also so many different brands/kinds of protein drinks. I

would suggest to go to www.bariatriceating.com and getting one of their

sample packs. They also sell the IsoPure drinks. Kinda like kool-aid

w/ protein! But, like Shauna said...check out some of the recipes. You

can make the shakes pretty darn tasty!

drink and it was gross. Now it is going to be apart of my everyday life and I

don't think that I can drink the shakes. I am such a snob dont like stuff like

that.

From the first appt til the surgery it is only 3 1/2 months, that is almost to

quick.

Hello everyone. I am new to the group and just thought I would introduce

myself. My name is Deanna but most people just call me Dee. I live in the

Metro St. Louis area with my Mom and my 8 yr old son named Cody. I had a Lap

RNY on April 4, 2006. My highest weight was when I started the wls journey

back in December of 2005. I weighed 458 pounds then. After trying on my own

to

lose some weight before surgery and then 3 weeks of pre-op liquid diet I was

down to 424 pounds the day of surgery. As of last Saturday, I was down to

339 pounds. Well, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi.

Wow Dee that's a lot of weight lost! You're about the same weight I

am now. I had my surgery Jan 20, 2006. I was heavier than you at my

heaviest though a year ago probably near/over 500lbs. I hope you're

doing well with all the changes.

I love St. Louis. I've been through it many times and have visited

some sites there once or twice.

Good luck!
