Guest guest
I lost alot of hair around 4 months post op but not enough to be noticeable. It scared me though cuz it came out in handfuls in the shower. But I never got bald spots or anything like that. I did take biotin capsules, I dont know if that helped or not. As for quality of hair, mine is actually better. If you keep up your vitamin regime you shouldnt have any problems. Guest guest
I think that's true too, and I have already started! Fremont advises, at orientation, that you find a protein that you can like, and vitalady.com has samples of all she sells for two bucks--$1.99. My hair seems to be getting thicker, so I feel pretty confident that I will suffer minimal hair loss. Actually I'd be upset if I lost hair, it's one of my best things! Guest guest
I lost a LOT of hair from 3-7 months out. When I asked a surgeon (Dr. Leo @ PB, who has been doing these for many years), he said that lack of protein is a big misconception regarding hair loss. He said that during rapid weight loss, we start excreting toxins from our fat cells. (Ladies, you know about the kick in the pants the estrogen causes during this phase.) He said that a lot of uric acid gets pumped into the system as it is released from the fat cells. The uric acid is a shock to the system. Consequently, our hair, which we don't need to live, takes the brunt of the toxins and falls out. Once our bodies have had time to adjust (around 7-9 months), the hair loss will stop. That's his opinion, and may differ from other surgeons, but it seemed very scientifically plausible to me. If you want to go the protein route, certainly the extra protein won't hurt, though. p.s.: When I went through that phase, I wore bandannas and hoop earrings to work and looked like Rhoda. =) pascha =) -127 lbs. > >, most of the people that I have talked to that lost some of their > >hair said that it had to do with the fact that their portein intake had > >gone down and they were instructed to add more protein to their diet. > > > > > >Kelli > >Approved Fremont 1-31-05 > >
Guest guest
Some hair loss is inevitable in about 99% of us. Usually it starts about 3 months out and ends by the sixth or seventh month or so. Protein intake does help a bit, as do vitamins, but there is really nothing you can do to avoid it altogether. VERY few people have so much loss that it is noticeable, so that's the good part. Laurie W. Re: Re: ?? for post-op people I think that's true too, and I have already started! Guest guest
Thanks Pascha, I'd never heard that before and it makes sense to me too. Since I can't stand anything on my head, gues I'll just run around hairless for a couple three months! Good thing I have a husband who loves me, hair or not! Oh I'll keep taking my protein, I have become addicted to it, but I won't be surprised or flummoxed if I start losing hair. Guest guest
Pascha, was your hair on the thin side to start with? And has it come back to its former glory? As you may or may not have noticed, I'm a chia pet when it comes to hair. Mine is extremely thick (not coarse, I just have a TON of hair, as do most redheads). I'm hoping that I won't get to the scalp showing state....LaWanda Ezell wrote: Thanks Pascha, I'd never heard that before and it makes sense to me too. Guest guest
I've been drinking EAS Advant Edge (coffee house"). It is 110 calories, with 3 grams of fat. 3 grams of carbs (1 sugar, the rest fiber), and 15 grams of protein. Are the vitalady ones higher in protein grams?LaWanda Ezell wrote: I think that's true too, and I have already started! Guest guest
Unfortunately, my hair was already thin to begin with. (Thanks, Grandma!) Therefore, it was much more noticeable on me. My hair still looks thin, but everything I lost due to surgery has grown back. From what I've heard from post-ops with thick hair, it is jarring to see all the hair come out, but it doesn't affect their overall " look " because their hair is thick enough to withstand a temporary loss. I doubt too many of you will have to resort to bandannas like I did...I was unlucky with hair to begin with! pascha =) > > > >, most of the people that I have talked to that lost some > >of their > > > >hair said that it had to do with the fact that their portein > >intake had > > > >gone down and they were instructed to add more protein to their > >diet. > > > > > > > > > > > >Kelli > > > >Approved Fremont 1-31-05 > > > >
Guest guest
Yes, as a general rule they are, but I'm not sure about the calorie counts on them.
