Guest guest
OK, i am honestly not trying to be smart here but just becuase someone is in a wheel chair doesnt mean they had all the answers to begin with. I would imagine that they had to learn (and thats what I am trying to do) how to exercise, learn how to get around, learn how to cope. I am very thankful that I am not in a wheel chair. I just want to manage. For me l feel this was a snide comment. I mean really just because someone else is in a wheelchair does not make my pain invalid. Guest guest
I'm sorry, I didn't mean it that way. What I meant was that the fact that people in wheelchairs manage to do that sort of exercise meant that there must be suitable exercises out there for people who can't stand or walk. It was meant to be encouraging. It was meant to be encouraging. ive been confined to a wheelchair for almost 3 years. my weight was never good but the lack of exercise from being confined went to the highest my weight has ever been and diabetes was the result. i had a hard time doing any exercise but my mom used to to always tell me " where theres a will theres a way " . i found a richard simmons video called " sit tight " . its a fantastic cardio workout for people confined to wheel chairs. i did it for a good 6 months and with dieting i lost 40 pounds. im now not confined to my wheel chair anymore. walking is difficult but i am walking. i still need the chair for long distance and for shopping but i feel as if ive come such a long way. my advice to all is never give up. thanks for listening. hugs, jude

Congratulations to you. I can appreciate how it feels to be mobile again, too. After I broke my legs, I had to use a walker and was confined to our house for several weeks as I could not get up and down the stairs. When I finally got outside, we bought an electric golf cart so I could at least get back to see the horses. I had to use those motarized chairs in the grocery store. I learned how to really move those things around. Then I got to where I could walk on flat surfaces, but I still have problems outside with ruts and slopes and dips. I just lost my handicapped parking permit today. I cherish being able to get around by myself again. Amber
Guest guest
Hiya! It may not quite count as " cardio, " but have you ever tried to wheel yourself in a wheelchair for a fair distance? I once got into a " race " usng the wheelchair simulators (!) at the local sports museum -- I won but only because I'd palled around with a local wheelchair tennis playerand knew to put a lot more arm and shoulder into long, long strokes on the wheels. And by the time I was done, I was sweating like crazy. I've used a chair occasionally since then, most recently to avoid a noisy argument with security guards who were letting handicapped event participants through a line but not the volunteers detailed to assist the handicapped! event participants!. And by the time I was done, I was sweating like crazy. I ALMOST blew my cover when the well-meaning (I hope) man told me that if I truly believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal savior I would walk again. I did say " God moves in mysterious ways, I move in a wheelchair, and the blind guy behind me moves like a Karate brown belt so you'd better not use that line on him. " Leone, rleone@... " Only you can prevent long sig files. "
