Guest guest
Vaughn and friends...It's curious that you mentioned how the tobacco settlement revenues ended up in the General Fund. That's precisely the situation we have here in Florida. Lottery was supposed to be the " be all-end all " answer to our struggling educational system and the concept was sold that way to Florida voters...that is, until it passed. You guessed it! A huge percentage of the lotto monies were syphoned into our General Fund and a few crumbs were thrown at the schools. Our schools are on the brink of exploding due to too many students and not enough classrooms. Kids are shuffled from one portable to another. Books are shared. Classes are either cancelled or doubled-up. Teachers buy needed supplies with their own money. Pay increases are slim to none. And the beat goes on. Meanwhile our state leaders are busy feathering their own nests. Building bridges bearing their names, re-zoning sensitive land to accommodate major developers who poured millions into campaigns and allocating dollars to fund frivolous research projects as a means to repay favors owed. Are Tennessee and Florida unique? NOT! This kind of stuff happens all the time in every state. Just last night, the national news reported Boston's 45+billion dollar " Big Dig " has spring a leak that may take 10 years to fix! So I guess we all have our problems and issues. There's plenty of blame to share across the board regardless of one's political lean. Still in all, this ain't a bad place to live. Considering the alternatives, we got it pretty good. Have a good day to all...Doug/St. sburg, FL " Vaughn Hickman " <vhickman35@chart To: <PLS-FRIENDS > er.net> cc: Subject: TN - TenCare 11/10/04 08:17 PM Please respond to PLS-FRIENDS Dolores, It's TenCare that the Governor is cutting. It's for those who don't qualify for Medicaid, but are too poor for insurance - that also includes druggies who can't hold a job (or won't), homeless people and of course single mothers with a brood of children. Some of the ones affected would break your heart, but some others who suck off the " system " make you want to spit. If there were only some " fair " way to administer it without discriminating - - - but apparently there isn't. The one thing that makes me furious is the hundreds of millions of dollars that TN received in the " tobacco settlement " went into the General Fund where the politicians could use it for their pet pork projects. I really feel sorry for some of those who are just trying to make it to the end of the month with enough money for food and clothing. The druggies have it made, because they know how to work the system. Vaughn
Guest guest
In California we also passed the lotto because ALL the money was to go to the schools - however the schools are always asking for more. Where is all that money going to? Susieq in Calif dbrand@... wrote: Vaughn and friends...It's curious that you mentioned how the tobacco settlement revenues ended up in the General Fund. Guest guest
---Funny how that works. Sounds just like what Washington State pulled, lottery money to go to the schools. Yea, right.
