Guest guest
--- In GastricBypass-InfoCentral , " Debbie Sellman " Wow Debbie, I am so sorry to hear about your trouble, I hope the New Year brings you hope and good health. I am so glad you are home recovering.Take it easy and keep us updated on how you are doing, and try to stay away from icu and tubes they are NOT friendly things. > Went and hand my Lap gastric bypass on Dec 11. Everything went great, Jeanne called me in the hospital on the 3rd day I think. Everything was going great except I kept getting high fevers. Well on the sat nite after my surgery, I felt like I couldn't breath like I had blood clot. I ended up in icu, then for x-rays to find out I had a bad pneumonia, and a leak in my pouch. Back to surgery, because of the pneumonia, ended up intubated for 24 hrs in the icu, for a total of 4 days in icu. > > I now have a feeding tube in my old stomach and 2 drains in. Things were moving slowly, so another cat scan to find out I needed a c-t guided drain. I thought I had turned the corner when they didn't like the color of the drains it looked like tube feeding,so they made it blue and I wake up allergic to blue dye. > Next I start with more fevers and high white counts, and now found out I had a line infection of MRSA. Most likely because I'm a health careworker and exposed to it for over 30 years. > so after being in the hospital almost 3 weeks, by one day, I can't eat for 4-12 weeks. > but I'm home. > > Deb > Love, > Debbie > > Apply Dogs logic to life: eat well,be loved, > get petted, sleep a lot, dream of a leash free world! > > make the difference in the life of someone > with cancer, volunteer or sign them up > for chemoangels, you'll be glad you did > www.chemoangels.com > > > -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ > > >

Guest guest
Dear Debbie, ::Big Soft Hugs:: Wow. You have really been through it. I'm so sorry you had so many complications. I hope the nurses and docs treated you well! You posted that you are home but won't be able to eat for four - twelve weeks. Is this a precaution or because of the feeding tube, etc.,? Will you be on liquids for that time period...? I want you to know that you are in my prayers for speedy recovery and no more complications! God bless you, Deb. Happy New Year! Love, Trace in Va. Guest guest
Oh Debbie, I'm so sorry to hear all of that. My God, that's something no one should have to go through. I can only say that I hope you're feeling better now and that the complications are behind you. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Many Hugs to you, Roe > The ordeal, > > Went and hand my Lap gastric bypass on Dec 11. Everything went great, Jeanne called me in the hospital on the 3rd day I think. Guest guest
Thanks Roe, I'm doing better everyday, this too shall pass. Thanks for the support. The one good thing was the first surgery was done lap and when they had to do the 2nd look and drain the abscesses, and put the feeding tube and drains in it was all done thru the scope and some of those incisions you can hardly see. So, that is good that I didn't have to worry about a big wound to heal and the stress on my body with that yet. Love, Deb
Guest guest
Trace, I can't eat anything to heal the pin hole leak in my pouch. So I have a feeding tube, remarkable I'm not hungry and the cooking shows don't even bother me. The smell of food in the hospital made me nauseated. I did get to eat before they found the leak and drink some and that was pretty much like everyone had explained it, but then I got sick and ended up where I am now. So not sure how they will introduce food. My doc does a modified pureed for 8 weeks to heal the pouch. I'll be beyond that so not sure how they will intro food. Will cross that bridge. I'm allowed to rinse my mouth with whatever I want, I'm doing the crystal light lemonade, and then spit. The antibiotics was making things taste like metal. Much better since they changed those to what I am on now. leaks are 1% complication for open and 5% for lap. I'm a health care worker and of course we get the complications, it's written in the stars. My surgeon and the residents were and are wonderful. The nursing care was pretty good and some was not. My surgeon wants to meet with me down the road to go over ideas on care for the gastric bypass patient. There maybe a job in this for me who knows, a go between for the patients and educator for the staff on our special needs. Thanks for the hugs, I need all I can get right now. love, Deb
