I've never been able to bring myself to board my pets

Tricia,

We can't board ours either. We have two Golden Retriever's who we love dearly, they are family. When we are able to go away their Nany (my mother) usually stays with them or our neice. They have never been left alone at night. They have gone on several vacations with us when we were able to camp and some motels allow pets, actually now that I think back we only had one at the time.

Our neighbors watched them one time for us and took them to their house at night to sleep. They thought that was great but when they came back home they searched every room for us. When we got home they were so excited to see us. Heck, even if we go to the store and come back they are excited, most of the time they go with us but not if it is too hot.

Hoping for Pain Free Days!Sandi

Isn't it awful to be like that? My husband says we can't let the animals keep us from getting away for awhile and know that is true but they get so scared and panic that just feel so guilty. How do you deal with it. I have to go with my husband and have to board the animals and know I will be grumpy and that irritates me as don't want to be like that. But have no family around here to stay with them so leaves me with no other options. At least I am not alone on this. Thanks for the reply, really appreaciate it.

JoAnn - It isn't just you. I've never been able to bring myself to board my pets. Between my parents and myself, we have three dogs and a cat. There have been a couple of times that my parents went on vaca and offered to take me along, but I just couldn't bring myself to leave them alone. Especially , my Great Pyrenees....she has horrible separation anxiety. So it isn't just you, I know exactly how you feel.

I suppose it is awful to be like that, but I can't help how I feel. Besides, if you saw 's face everytime someone leaves the house....talk about the sad puppy dog eyes. It's enough to break your heart. Fortunately, while my dad may not be the most supportive person in the world when it comes to RSD, he does love almost as much as I do, so he is extremely helpful to me in taking care of her. After all, it's a little difficult to walk a 132lb dog, when you can barely hold yourself up ;) I know it's tough though; I wish I could give you a tip about how to deal easier, but the way I deal is to make sure she's never alone so that won't help you much :)

The poem for your sister was beautiful, and often times I've seen people publish things like it in memorial of loved ones through their local paper. It's not tacky, it's just an expression of love and admiration. Hope your evening is going well.

Tricia glad I am not alone with having difficult time leaving 7 full days my animals in a cage with Vet. Just makes me sick and makes my husband upset with me as he doesn't want this to be something that keeps us from getting away, which agree with but how do you go and know that they are scared so badly and cannot understand why have left them like that. I am glad you don't think the words for my sister are out of line. Plan on calling the paper in next couple weeks but scared as it is such a reality about her and find it difficult. Have you lost someone close to you? Well hope you are having a less painful day and sometime write me at my home email which is 2xhawks@...

so we can get to know each other better. Again for anyone new that is wanting to speak to me privately please write me at that email instead of sending it to the digest.

Take care Tricia and thanks for your reply.

JoAnn & Russ, I wish I lived close to you because I would babysit. I have 2 Golden Retrievers that live with me inside and they would hate to be in a kennel. How close are you to Louisiana? Send them on over - the more 4 legged family I have the better. They always love me and are there when others are not. I couldn't leave my babies either. I get a dog-sitter from the Vet's office to come and live in my house when I have to be gone or I am in the hospital. She's wonderful. Maybe you could try that. I sent you an email to your other address, please read asap.

Thanks,

Debbie D from Louisiana
