Hi Harald ,

yes this post of yours ( attached below) is true but they way you wrote it

might be misinterpreted . To avoid GI upset you can take with a tablespoon of

applesauce and that will help but you really should not sit down and have a meal

.. Even just a mouthful of applesauce will hinder the effect but it will still

have some effect. therefore it is only recommended to use a mouthful of

something when all else fails . Hope this makes sense :) warm regards,

Merri

socjog and group,

I have done some web research on whether or not minocycline can be taken

with food. It appears that while tetracycline has to be taken on an empty

stomach, minocycline and doxycycline can be taken with food. Food may

slightly decrease the effectiveness of these drugs, but it makes them

easier on the stomach.

The following information is from Wyeth -

" When Minocin minocycline hydrochloride pellet-filled capsules were given

concomitantly with a meal, including dairy products, the extent of

absorption of Minocin minocycline hydrochloride pellet filled capsules was

not noticeably influenced. The peak plasma concentrations were slightly

decreased (11.2%) and delayed one hour when administered with food, compared

to dosing under fasting conditions. "

The doctors we know have always advised taking the capsules on an empty

stomach and two hours away from consuming dairy products or

multi-vitamin/mineral supplements.

Hi Ethel and All,

I got this off rxlist.com

" Absorption of tetracyclines is impaired by antacids containing

aluminum, calcium or magnesium, and iron-containing preparations. "

Just thought this info would be good

Thanks for the reminder, Marge. We're going to keep recommending what we

know has worked all these years - -

For best results take Minocin (minocycline) on an empty stomach with a full

glass of water at least two hours before or two hours after eating, or

consuming dairy products. Also, avoid antacid products containing aluminum,

calcium or magnesium, and iron containing preparations.
