Edith, Don't let this opportunity go by. You need to live your life now and

enjoy it. You need to look forward and not worry weather you have PLS or ALS

just keep moving girl. I'm jealous, Costa Rica, what a beautiful place to

go................ Like said make sure your near the bathrooms and

let the airlines know why you need to sit there. As far as getting in and out

of cars and curbs let them help you. True friends don't mine and since your

friends know your condition they will plan ahead for you in their home.

Edith, here is another chance for your retired neurologist to see your symptoms

and give his opinion! Hope you and Dick decide to go...............take

care...............Flora

Edith,

I join the rest who have said " just do it " ...and your own personal

neurologist, a h/c accessible apartment overlooking the ocean, the willing

husband and

friends. We have a SUV and it has handles that I use to pull myself in and

if at those times I haven't been able to, Craig just pushes me up. I do find

it easiest to sit in the front seat rather than the back. Forget the " I

can't and what if " and look at what a wonderful opportunity.

We went on a Panama Canal cruise in April for almost 3 weeks and Costa Rica

was one of the ports of call; it's beautiful. Many on the cruise had power

chairs, manual chairs, walkers and tons of canes. My biggest challenge was

getting on and off the bus but there were handles and I have a husband who is

now extremely good on knowing how (and where) to push and pull me. I sit

close of the restrooms on the plane; the airlines are very helpful and you know

the restrooms are so small you can't fall.

Edith, don't miss this opportunity, and don't allow your husband to miss it

or your friends to miss being able to enjoy your company which it sounds as

they very much want. I'm sure lots of people would love an opportunity like

you described.

Edith,

Don't you dare pass up an opportunity to go and have fun while you

can. Just think about if it where your husband or your friend that

needed the extra help. Wouldn't you be more than happy to do what

you could to make it easier for that person?

As far as the plane goes, just ask for a seat at the bulkhead. That

gives you more room and you are by the restrooms. I've flown

several times and find that I have no problem getting to the

restroom because of the small areas in a plane, I have lots to hold

onto!

Go, have a wonderful time. Don't let your fears ruin your life.

Live for today. It is all any of us can be certain of.
