OK, have a painfree day, AmeyTonia wrote: My Doctor absolutely refuses to even mention the word "brace". Between his own studies and talking to Dr. Schwartzman, he's figured it out that having any kind of brace on makes everything worse, even if it is just during bedtime For me, I have tried the wrist braces, knee braces (both kinds....the ones that have the metal bars so that you can't bend your leg, and the pull on ones with the velcro strips to keep it on)....and it never fails, my whole limb swells up clear around it and it is impossible to get off. Once I do get it off, it takes a week to get rid of the marks from the insides of the braces that are left. I'm going to try and start using my one brace....that has the metal bars in it that was made for me, at bedtime from now on, or if I can't stand that, Then I'll use it at night after supper and then take it off before bed, cause I had just sprained my knee and pulled all of the muscles in my leg because of it. I had gotten the brace the day after I got hurt from my own doctor.....but then a week later, the W/C jerk made me take it off and stay off the crutches that My Own specialist told me to use until he said different. THanks to those dirtbags......I wasn't able to have any assistive devices (brace, cane, crutches...etc) and no meds at all....because according to the jackass, there was nothing wrong with me! Tonia -------Original Message------- Stacey, I was wondering how long it took for your hand to get to that point. My right hand is really bad and getting worse every day it seems. It is extremely painful, swollen....my fingers, thumb and wrist feel broken. I'm having a hard time doing normal things like brushing my teeth, pulling on clothes, etc. I can't move my thumb out very much, like when you spread your fingers. HI LORI GEE, I HATE TO HEAR THAT BECAUSE THAT'S HOW MY HAND STARTED. I THINK IT WAS ABOUT 5 OR 6 MONTHS AFTER BEING DIAGNOSED, BEFORE MY PT DOCTOR SUGGESTED I GO TO AN OT AND HAVE A SPECIAL SPLINT MADE. PT WASN'T DOING THAT MUCH FOR MY CLAW HAND AND HE FELT REALLY BAD FOR ME. I WAS TOLD FROM THE FIRST DAY I GOT THE SPLINT, THAT IT PROBABLY WON'T DO MUCH GOOD. I WAS DETERMINED TO TRY. IF YOU FEEL THAT YOUR HAND IS GETTING WORSE THEN MAYBE YOU SHOULD ASK YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT IT. I THINK THAT IT HAS HELPED A LITTLE BUT I HAVE TO WARN YOU, IT IS VERY PAINFUL OUCH -OUCH! THE OTHER ONE IS TOO. VERY VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. I HOPE THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TOO MUCH PAIN TOMORROW. ____________________________________________________ IncrediMail - Email has finally evolved - Click Here
Guest guest
Janie, I'm so very sorry that the surgery did not go well, I've been there before and that alone can make you depressed. That's good that you can use a cane now though, even if you are not steady you can put all of your weight on it now. I don't have any information on disability for you, I might be asking how you did it not too far down the road...lol. But I do know if you look online it has information about it, and I think has the forms but I'm not sure. I'm sure somebody will be able to help you with it more than that! Good luck with the medication and be sure to take it easy. For me I've always had a hard time with anti-depressants. I've been through about 4 different ones because I couldn't handle the side effects. The one I'm on now - Lexapro - my doc had me start with 1/4 of a pill and work my way up to a whole one, and that worked well. So if you have alot of side effects you might want to ask your doctor about doing something like that. Keep me posted and I'll talk to you soon. <hugs> Lori
