I had open RNY at Richmond, and I was back to work in 4 weeks. I was

still a little sore but did fine.

Huggles and welcome to the group

Hi Patty,

Sorry I can't answer your question about returning to work. But . . . I

do want to say congrats on getting your approval.

I was fortunate enough that my sister came down from Alaska to stay with

me. She did a great job of prodding me to walk enough. But I do think

that I could have taken care of myself after surgery.

I look forward to hearing more from you as you progress.

All the best,

Hi Patty, congratulations on getting

approved! I think you will definitely want some help at least for a week or two

after surgery. If you’re having it done laparascopically

and you have a smooth recovery, you can probably go back to work full-time

within 4-6 weeks. I stayed out for 8 weeks (I really felt fine after 4, but I

wanted to take advantage of having some extra time off). I know some people

have gone back to work even sooner. A lot of it just depends on your pain

tolerance and how well you recuperate. You will get tired pretty easily for the

first 3 or 4 weeks. Have you ever had any other surgeries that you can gauge

how well you recuperated from them? If so, that may be a good barometer for how

well you recuperate after this surgery. I had both a gall bladder removal (laparascopic) and a c-section (open, of course) prior to wls and I recovered very easily from both of those so I figured

I’d have it pretty easy after wls and I did.

Everyone’s experience is unique, however, based on your personal

situation.

How soon do people start going back to work after surgery?

Hi! I have been reading the listserv for a

while.

I was just approved for surgery this week.

I am wondering dozens of things. But, what I

am wondering the most,

that I have not seen mentioned, is how soon people

went back to work

after the surgery. I would appreciate

hearing from people.

Did you go back part time or full time?

I am a little worried about recovery because my

family all lives out

of state. Can you take care of yourself when

you come home, or do

you definitely need help?

Thank you, so much. I have been assigned to

Richmond.
