Guest guest
Dear Grp: Need advice. While cooking dinner last night - I lifted off an improper fitting lid and burned 3 fingers on right hand with steam. Severe pain- immediately used aloe gel instead of cold water immersion as I wasn't thinking due to the pain. I kept my fingers straight all night but each joint- first one under cuticle will not bend today. It looks like I have a blister forming on each finger joint about the size of a quarter. Should I keep trying to bend my fingers today or let them rest? My right hand was doing great prior to last night. I am concerned that the burn damaged the joint and I sure don't need anymore damage to my fingers!!!! Any suggestions on what to do for pain also? Guest guest
I recently fried my thumb while cooking. I grabbed an ice cube instead of aloe and melted the whole thing. I didn't really have a great deal of pain because of the ice, but got an awful blister and later discoloration and a hard covering. It took about a month for it to completely heal, but it now looks normal and feels fine. I continued doing everything as normal, although it was very annoying at times. Did put a lot of neosporin on it at first, later I used Tropical Traditions Baby Silk Lotion. No damage done, but a lesson learned! Hope it clears up soon. Guest guest
Thanks for the info, I didn't know that it continued the burning. However, my thumb is now fine, so in a pinch it was ok this time. It melted so rapidly that the towel I had it on was soaked so mostly I got liquid. Guest guest
Worth noting that ice should never be used directly on burns - the ice itself will burn the skin further. The burned part should be put under running cold water as quickly as possible and kept there for at least 15 minutes. This is standard first aid practice.
