The dextrin was in the vegetables. They were either deep fried or freeze

dried, not sure which. But, the green beans contained green beans, dextrin,

and salt. Carrot chips contained carrots, dextrin, and salt and so on and so

on. I did find some banana chips (unsweetened) that contained only bananas.

I have a dehydrator but I haven't had the time to make everything yet.

All of the lunchmeat type ham I've looked at have some component of fruit

juice or sugar in them, even Applegate Farms at Harry's. The man at the deli

there told me all hams will have some sugar, sometimes less than 2% though. I

saw that there are links on pecanbread.com to a place where you can order

Virginia Country Ham, but I'm afraid to spend $64 on a ham and not know what it

tastes like???? Maybe I should try to get him to eat turkey ;)

Nothing in it but turkey.

I have ordered this ham twice and will order it again. It arrives as

a 14-pound " rock " which can hang in your kitchen unrefrigerated for

weeks until you are ready to cook it. Then you have to soak it from

12 to 72 hours (changing the water every 12 hours--I soaked it close

to the maximum time because it is very salty to start out) and then

boil(simmer) it 20-25 minutes per pound. I had to buy a canning pan

to have a pan large enough to soak/cook it in. I also changed the

water and boiled it an extra hour because it was still to salty. But

then...it had a great flavor!:) If you still find it too salty I

would change the water and boil it some more. We cut it all up and

put it in small vacuum sealed packages in our freezer where it will be

handy to grab for eating on the road and for school lunches. All the

directions for preparing it are on the website and on the cloth bag it

comes in. My son loves it.

Yes, the dextrin is illegal so anything containing it is illegal.

These bananas are illegal. Commercial banana chips are made with

starchy, unripe green bananas.

If you find a local butcher they may be able to smoke a ham without

illegals for far less. They may also do some legal sausages for you

if you give them either an ingredient list or the ingredients

themselves.
