Is Kirkman Labs' ProBio Gold (Inulin free) now legal? It seems many

people on this list use Custom Probiotics. Has anyone switched from

ProBio Gold to Custom Probiotics and if so what is your

comparison/experience?

Chie,

It is not legal in the sense that it contains other strains besides

acidophilus. Elaine only recommends acidophilus. Have you tried

the acidophilus from custom probiotics yet? It is very good.

Another great source of benefical bacteria is the homemade yogurt.

How long has your child been on SCD? If it's been at least 3

months, that might be something to try.

For more on WHY Elaine doesn't like it....

That said, a lot of SCDers are alternating a couple of " otherwise

legal " probiotics (I don't know the manufacturers--we haven't gotten

ours yet). For example, the ProBio Gold (inulin free) for a month or

til it runs out, then the Custom Probiotics Acidophilus (or whichever

brand you find sounds best to you.)Then switch back. The reasoning is

to avoid the " overgrowth or mutation " concern and still get the

plethora of benefits from multiple strains. More importantly, remember

that no diet, even SCD is completely tailored to your specific bodily

needs. (There are so many Legal foods which I cannot eat--we are

extrememly limited.) You have to find what works best for you. Some

don't even feel good or have bad reactions when they are taking the

bifidus.

I hope people respond to your request for comparison/experience.
