I'm really not crazy about doing it, but I guess it's a necessity at this point.

24-hour cortisol...Free cortisol or Total?

Hi,

I am currently doing a 24-hour urine collection for cortisol. One question

is what test or tests should be run, a Free or Total? I am told by the

office they plan to run Free.

Also, does it matter whether I exercise today or not?

I'm not sure. I think it's a Free Cortisol, but don't hold me to that.

Just one side note here---You are packing the main urine collection in an

ice chest or in any container that is iced, right? It must be on ice to

maintain the ability to do an accurate testing. Some people don't seem to

know this. It's going to test ALL the cortisol you have in one 24 hr

period, which is exactly why I don't think this test is accurate at all.

The saliva test is a far superior testing for Free cortisol.
