Guest guest
Hey everyone...I just started reading this book this morning: It's Not About Food: End Your Obsession with Food and Weight by Carol Emery Normandi & Laurelee Roark I have only read the introduction so far but I am impressed!! One thing that really impressed me is they don't claim that all their advice is the be all and end all. They say "we suggest you read this book using your own internal guidance. Take every example, suggestion, and exercise and ask yourself if it applies to you. Give yourself permission to sort out what is true for you and what isn't. Remember, much of what is in this book comes from our experience and perspective. You may agree with all of it, some of it, or none of it. As the old twelve-step saying goes, "Just take what you need and leave the rest." I was really impressed to read this because this is very much how I have felt on my IE journey. I've read a lot of books on intuitive eating and body acceptance and I've learned to do basically that...take what I need and leave the rest. And what I need one day may not be what I need at another time. The key for me is to keep reading books (and re-reading them!), reading the posts at this board and just keep on keeping on I guess! And another quote from the introduction: "what we have experienced in our groups is that although many of the causes and symptoms of the eating disorders are different for different people, the healing message is always the same: We are all sacred, to be honored and respected for our uniqueness." I LOVE that..I think it's gonna be my new favourite quote! I've been kind of neglecting my IE journey lately. I guess taking a break is a better way to say it. I found this book in my closet this morning, picked it up and started reading. I guess I'm reading to work on this stuff again! I'll keep you posted on how the rest of the book is. And remember...you are all sacred, to be honored and respected for your uniqueness!! Kipkabob (Intuitive eating since September 2006) The new Internet Explorer® 8 - Faster, safer, easier.
