Guest guest
Robbie, Ok for my two cents worth as an adult with lots of reactions.... 1. Put him in for an epsom salt bath and let him play a long time. 2. If you can get him to take baking soda mixed in a little water it really helps with allergic reactions and the timing is right for it now. I'd say about 1/2 to 1 tsp of baking soda in about 1/4th cup of water. He will probably only do this once because it is so salty. Give him plain water to drink right away to rinse his mouth. I know the box says to use all the water at first to dissolve it but the kid will never be able to drink it all before he says no. (Do this at least 30 min. after his dinner see next entry) 3. If he is not hungry don't feed him. Let his system rest. Or if he is hungry give him a soup or something easy to digest. 4. For tonight and tomorrow give him his favorite things to do, the most distracting things to keep him occupied and quiet. Whatever you think is best. Stay calm and supporting -- if you can And it's probably too late for enzymes and but you might consider charcoal if he can take capsules. Guest guest
Robbie, My advice on restaurants is to take your son's food with you. Serve his food when everyone else' s food comes. I may really seem like a pain to pack his food, but it really does work out better in the long run. Plain chicken is never plain. That's my feeling about it. When you look at the ingredients list for restaurants and you look at the " plain " chicken, it is always in some sort of " solution " . Places may look at you strange with a lunch box, but you can just say he has food allergies or he's picky or whatever seems to fit your needs. But places will not refuse to serve you just because you bring a lunch box for a little kid. To take hot food with you, just invest in a Thermos brand stainless steel thermos. Food will stay hot for hours in one. I just shopped around for a lunch box that could hold a water bottle on the side and that could hold 2 Thermoses or 1 Thermos and some other storage containers. That way I have everything they need with me in one place. It even has a little pocket in the front for wet wipes. We've been taking the boys' food with us in lunch boxes or a small cooler for 5 years now. You eventually get used to it. Infractions here have always been treated with enzymes mixed in a liquid as soon as possible after the infraction. Then epsom salt baths and as much water as possible to drink. Guest guest
I'm sorry, Robbie. I feel for you. I know how these infractions just get us down. My baby son just ate some cat food today. Yuck. It has all kinds of illegals in it, luckily it was a natural kind at least with no sugar added. And the other day, I accidentally bought the applesauce with high fructose corn syrup in it. (I know, I know, we really shouldn't use the store bought, but it doesn't seem to bother him at all.) My son ate some at his preschool. The good thing was, he didn't have much of a reaction from it, just some loose poop, a little belly hurting, and a little bad behavior, but nothing major. Anyway, you are not alone. One good thing I have noticed being on the SCD is that when infractions happen, they are not as profound or damaging as pre-SCD when we were just gluten/casein free. The healing time doesn't last as long. I guess it depends on how long you have been on the diet already, but he should feel better sooner than he would have. And I just praise God that overall our children feel so much better and do so well compared to all they suffered before SCD. I would not trust any restaurant food at all while on the diet, other than a salad (and not always that even!) It is hard not to be able to eat out, but worth it again, compared to the misery before. God bless you... He will be better very soon. So will my kitty food thief. I just know it... Tina > We had our first infraction today, and I'm so upset. It's my own fault - my mother in law came to town for one day and wanted to go out to lunch with everyone. I was told we could all eat at home if necessary or that I could pick where we go. Knowing my sister in law was preparing for a trip, I thought it would be more convenient for all of us to go out so I called ahead of time to find out anything I could about the food prep. > > I called Fuddruckers - a burger place. They insisted that I could specify 'no spice' on the burger or grilled chicken and that they use only real cheese. I got grilled chicken with cheddar cheese and some guacamole, which, according to what he told me on the phone, would be legal. Well, I asked for no spice, but I think they put it on anyway. I had a bite of his chicken and it was spicey... I know it had sugar and who knows what other starch in it as it is a pre- mixed spice concoction. is now very gassy (horrible skunk smell) and had D - it's been about 6 hours since we ate. > > Is there anything I can do to help combat this? More probiotics? Would an enzyme help at this point? The one I have doesn't appear to be illegal but says not to take on an empty stomach. I'm just mad at myself for even attempting to eat out. > > Robbie > > > >
Guest guest
It is so hard, isn't it, sometimes? I have no problems not eating out, but the family functions all seem to revolve around eating out. BUT when everyone realized was messed up today, it was obvious it had to be the restaraunt food. So, I'm sure next time around we can eat here at my house or I'll bring food for them. Thank you for your support. Someone else posted some really practical info and I did make soup for dinner. unfortunately, I don't have any epsom salt for a bath or any charcoal. I see I may need to have some on hand. Really, thank you all for your help! Robbie Re: Infraction - any advice? I'm sorry, Robbie. I feel for you. I know how these infractions just get us down. My baby son just ate some cat food today.
