I use a crock pot with a lamp dimmer to make yogurt, which works well

for me, as I make 4-5.5 qts at a time. Also, the dimmer helps me, as

the incubation temperature fluctuates with the room temperature. You

can figure out where to set the lamp dimmer by running a trial with

water and testing the temp with a thermometer, and making sure it

stays in the 100-110 degree range for at least 24 hours.

Yes, Sheryl, that's correct. When you use the lamp dimmer with the

crock pot, it decreases the heat output so you can get it to the

correct incubation temperature. If you plugged a lamp into it, it

would dim the lamp. So clever. I wish I could credit who thought of

it originally, but it has been passed down the line via the wonderful

Internet..

I read the other post about the dimmer and that sounds wonderful. I

tested my crock pot on its regular low temp and it was much too hot

so eventually was able to get my oven to the correct temp using a 60

watt bulb and preheating the oven.

Best of luck!
