Anyone have some Yogurt recipes we can try. We tried one and it was

bitter (even after a lot of honey).

Thanks,

Jay, father of Connor, 3.5, SCD in about a week.

Jay,

Yogurt is sour tasting.

Which recipe did you use?

Adding fruit will help hide some of the sourness, but personally I

cannot stand eating it because of the flavor. I would have to hold

my nose, swallow and chase it down with something strong

flavored.

(But everyone here knows what a picky eater I am...LOL).

Jay,

Goat yogurt is always a bit tart. One grows accustomed to it. As an adult with

Celiac Disease I have used both cow and goat dairy and tolerate the goat yogurt

better. It took only a short time to become accustomed the the rather piquant

flavor . Yogurt can be combined with fruit into a " smoothie. " (cook all fruits

at first and see that they are peeled and seeded.)

How long has your child been on SCD? Yogurt should not be started for a t least

a month after beginning.

There is only one recipe I ever used and it is on the Pecanbread site:

In the adult non SCD world, goat cheeses are highly rated by gourmets. They

are treasured for their slightly tart and piquant flavor. Goat and sheep diary

do have separate and subtle overtones that distinguish them from cow's milk and

from each other.

Goat yogurt has the same unique quality found in the goat cheese. It apparently

comes with a bonus for autism children who tolerate it better than cow's milk as

something in it is different and is believed to be the factor that improves

gaining cognitive and behavioral skills.

Unfortunately goat yogurt has come in for criticism outside Pecanbread because a

few children do not handle it well.

Parents on this list have always been cautioned to avoid foods that consistently

cause a bad reaction.

Those that do employ goat yogurt and cheeses will want to do so with an open

mind and encourage the kids to develop a taste for it.

When I switched from cow to goat dairy, I made the same observation as you Jody,

--said I couldn't abide it, but it went down a lot easier for me than cow yogurt

which gave me unexpected random bad reactions.

I overcame the initial " nose wrinkling " by spooning in a generous heaping

tablespoon of nut butter, a good shot of honey and even some nuts or raisins on

occasion.

This has become my favorite dessert. I appreciate that taste preferences vary

and are subjective, but I admit when I see it described in negative terms, quite

frankly " It gets my goat " :-) LOL!

Carol,

I am glad that you have learned to like it.

Everyone knows (I think) that I am the queen of picky

eaters...LOL.

I would eat yogurt right before starving to death. :)

Nothing personal against yogurt, there are plenty of other foods

that I hate equally.

I didn't mean to offend the yogurt. It just tastes sour to me. My

boys, on the other hand, will eat it plain with no sweeteners and

no fruit at all. Then again they like Lodi apples, which are about

the most sour food I have ever tasted.
