Doctor Dutta, one of the surgeons at Freemont Kaiser, told me and everyone

at my orientation, that a successful weight loss from the surgery is

considered from fifty to eighty percent of your body weight. About the

other, I don't know but I get the impression that the goal of the surgery

is to make one healthier, and not necessarily to reach an ideal weight. I

think that the idea is to have one go from being morbidly obese to being

only moderately overweight, such is considered a success. LaWanda At

LaWanda: 50 to 80% of you body weight...of 50 to 80% of your excess weight? (In other words, if I'm 100 lbs overweight, do I imagine I'll lose between 50 and 80 lbs...or, can I hope to lose half of my overall body weight (at 248 that would make me 124)?LaWanda Ezell wrote:

you are right pat it is the excess weight that you lose the 50%up 80% which is not always right i know people who lost more than the requred weight and are having trouble keeping from losing more weight. that is rare but it does happen. i have lost more than 50% of ny overweight part now and i am 4 months out i want to get rid of at least 30 more lbs and i will be very happy

take care

I'm quite sure that it's 50 to 80% of our EXCESS weight. If at 300 (hypothetical) I lost 80% of my total weight I'd weigh only 60 pounds! At 300, I'm 150 pounds overweight, so I should be able to lose up to 120 pounds of my excess weight, making me weigh 180. (I think my math is correct, but feel free to check me!)

Hello

I'm Gemello. My highest recorded weight was 315 lbs, and I'm 5'8 "

inches tall. There was a period of about 3 years when I wouldn't

even get on a scale, and I'm sure I was a bit heavier.

Anyway, I went from morbidly obese to normal weight. I've lost a

total of 153 lbs, and my BMI is now normal. I'm at the higher end of

the normal weight range, but I'm also far more muscular than I've

even been due to my heavy workouts with free weights. I'm no body

builder, but for the first time in my life I see muscle definition

and tone in my chest, arms, shoulders and legs. And as we all know,

muscle weighs more than fat.

The last 10 lbs were a bear, but I became focused and put forth my

best effort. Fitday.com really helped me be aware of how many

calories and grams of protein I was consuming.

It was possible for me, but it's not possible for everyone because

this is so individual. I just hope that no matter where everyone

ends up, they can be happy with a vastly improved health status and

life.

If we shoot for the underwear model look, I think we all will be

disappointed. I was shooting for a more " normal " appearance. I'm

still amazed by my size. I can't believe it's me. It finally

happened to me. My dearest wish came true and my prayers were

answered. God (as I define my higher power) finally noticed my pain

and took it away.

I'm still adjusting to this new body, but it's amazing that the

metamorphosis has been more than just physical. My mind, body and

spirit have been radically transformed by this process.

I am more me that I've ever been, yet I am so different. It's

strange but true.

Best of luck to you. Remember that you can do anything you set your

mind to. If you believe it will happen, it will. As a wise man

said, " You absolutely generate in your life the results that you

believe you deserve. And if you don't believe that you deserve the

good things that come your way, you will sabatoge yourself at every

step of the way. "
