The AM cortisol is quite high. Have they done a 4x a day cortisol? You may have

both Hashi and Graves. Boy, wouldn't that be fun. Normally I don't agree with

stopping meds for a baseline, but it is started, so that is what it is and I am

curious the results. Your ferritin is a bit low, but it doesn't appear that

would cause that reaction. Did you divide the Armour into 3x a day for

starters?

Re: how does hypO affect adrenals? Jamy

Hi Jamy,

Thanks for your reply. I am currently on no meds. I had a bad

reaction to Armour (although I am considering trying it again) after

switching from synthroid. I initiated the switch as my FT3 was even

lower than it is now (consistently riding the bottom of the normal

range). I was on a small dose of Armour for about 2 weeks when I

felt increased anxiety and nausea, not feeling well at all, and so I

discontinued it (with the agreement of my endo). I was taking

between 15-30mg/day.

BTW, I was hyperT for a short spell last year (I have TSI

antibodies, which cause Graves'), and I have been very active on

Graves_Support Yahoo Group for over a year. I have just taken a

leave of absence from them to get myself together here. I stopped

Armour about 4 weeks ago and my endo wants me to wait another few

weeks to see where I'm at before deciding on whether to treat. I am

totally prepared to go it alone if need be, but we'll see if she's

cooperative.

My serum cortisol was 22.7 (4 - 22) in the a.m. but just after

breakfast (not fasting). My ferritin was 44.

I always had a weight issue and was constantly dieting. In 1997 I was eating

like a horse and losing weight like crazy. It was great. I was even underweight!

It was the beginning of the Hashi decline for me. I was dxed in 2002

Re: how does hypO affect adrenals? Jamy

Jamy,

The cortisol was only done once, in the a.m. I have antibodies for

both HT and GD, but my TPO-ab was relatively low for those with HT

(as in the single digits, compared to high hundreds that are typical

for Hashi's). I believe I have been subclinical hypO for years and

had a brief spell of hyperT, which I believe was caused by excess

iodine. I have made dietary changes and therefore my hyper symptoms

abated. But I believe that my thyroid is ailing!

Since I was on a low dose of Armour, I took it in two divided doses.

your ferritin was a bit low. What was the range? here is a link to my DR's

website that has a great article on ferritin. www.goodhormonehealth.com. I

think many of us have a hard time when we first start any thyroid med. I think

you said somewhere that you don't drink coffee, right? Did you have any

stimulant for breakfast like coke or mountain doo?

I would take 2 325 mgs of ferrous sulfate. Afternoon meal and night time snack.

The cortisol is high.

Re: how does hypO affect adrenals? Jamy

Hi Jamy,

The range for Ferritin was 10 - 154.

Thanks for the link.

I haven't had caffeinated coffee or tea for a couple of years now.

No stimulants for breakfast! (Nor do I have any softdrinks. I

abstain from aspartame. I typically drink plain Brita-filtered

water, orange or cherry juice very diluted with water.) The only

stimulants I have is a piece of chocolate now and then.

Hmmm...wondering why I'm eating so much & still losing weight myself. Something

strange here.
