Guest guest
It is very common for these kids (and all kids) to use home as the place to release stress and regulate themselves after a new experience. My son will walk in the door, demand a video (which he knows he's not going to get) and throw a temper tantrum as soon as I say " no. " Here some ideas, hope others can provide more - create an " unwind " routine when he comes home that includes some sensory activities that sooth him - e.g. deep pressure, swings, quiet music, ... and go to this right away when you walk in the door - look and see what physical needs he might have that he can't express because he's so wound up - hunger, sleep, thirst,... - calmly name his feelings, " You look like you have a lot of energy after school, should we jump? dance? " " You look tired after school, can I rock you? " - hang in there an stay calm - new experiences take time for all kids to come to terms with and having you as a " calm reassuring rock " will help them adjust quicker. Hope this helps - we've been through a number of these experiences because we've unfortunately had to move a number of times as my son was coming fully into his symptoms. It also appears from time to time as he goes through a growth spurt or is fighting a cold, etc. so the routine you create will continue to help in the future. Good luck - you're welcome to email me if you need any more support. AMK - mom to Will PDDNOS 3.5 > My son began preschool this week. (I almost cried this morning, > although he never does!) Guest guest
Hi Tina, My is on her LAST day of Junior Kindergarten today ... who can believe it? Let me tell you ... she could have a screaming, raving, kicking tantrum about going to school, and then once she got there, she was peachy-fine, and the teacher would tell me she had a GREAT day! I think they can control themselves sometimes, and they feel safest at home, so they let it out. You're fortunate that they are supportive of your dietary interventions. Our school was great too.
