H1N1

While my pediatrician's office won't recommend the vaccine because it's too new, I've been considering it for myself because I'm borderline asthmatic and the last flu I had kicked my butt. But I'm leery and will most likely chicken out in favor of hand sanitizer and maybe a mask if it gets too scary.

H1N1 is in the media because it is here. Wouldnt you be upset if people were hospitalized or dying from a virus and the media did not report it? I see patients everyday from 18months to 18yrs coming out positive for influenza.

Fortunately everyone so far has been ok. Except for having 103-104 temp for several days and not wanting to move off the couch, all  are doing well. My concern is when my patients with diabetes and heart disease get it, how will they do? Of course I also worry about all our children with autism who cannot afford to miss one day of school. They will be home for 1-2 weeks. I dont know that the vaccine is the answer. (there will probably be a shortage anyway). I did not vaccinate my daughter with autism but I did vaccinate myself and my other children with the seasonal flu vaccine. The best prevention for us all is covering our face when we cough, and wash our hands for at least 20 seconds at a time throughout the day.

I find that odd that your pediatricians office is not recommending it because it is new, regardless of ones vaccine philosphy. The seasonal flu vaccine is changed yearly. So really that one is also always new. They are made the same way just the strain of virus in each is different. But I do agree, take a lot of vitamin C, eat healthy, and keep all hands away from your face!

Vaccine discussions are a very emotionally charged issue. From what I've

read, the H1N1 has some additional adjuvants* that have some horrible

side effects. Many nutritionists are also recommending additional

vitamin D3 to support the immune system. If you don't want to get a D3

blood level test done, you can increase your vitamin D through even 15

minutes/day of sun.

[*adjuvant = chemical substance added to a vaccine to increase

inflammation which makes the vaccine work better. Unfortunately, for our

kids, increased inflammation in the brain may make autism worse!]
