Hello,

We have been truly SCD legal for 4 days now, hanging in there! We havent

given him any of his usual vitamins and I have been searching for good legal

subsitutes. I know about Freeda vitamins but I am looking for someone to

provide

me with some actual suggestions of what kind they use. And if they are not

chewable how do you administer or hide them on this limited intro diet? Im

looking for a good multi-vitamin, B6/Mag supplement, calcium, folinic acid.

Also

any other suggestions?

Thanks so much,

(mother of Noah - 26 months, asd -SCD 4 days and Olivia -9 months, nt)

Hi ,

The Freeda vitamin I use is just labled " SCD Multi-vitamin " . I went and took a

look at the Freeda website (www.freedavitamins.com ) and looked around a little

bit. They do have a lot of other products but I didn't really see any others

labeled for SCD. Some of the others may be legal but I'm not sure. I didn't look

through the whole site. Have you taken a look at the supplement section at the

pecanbread.com website? There's a whole list of legal/illegal..... of course,

not every single possible legal vitamin is on that list, but there is also a

list of what you want to look for in terms of legal and illegal ingredients, so

you can just read labels at your natural foods store and determine whether a

supplement would work or not.

Oh.... and I just crush the Freeda's up with a mortar and pestle.... and mix it

in applesauce. Doesn't taste or smell too bad, but then Katera isn't too picky

in terms of tastes.

I used to use the Kirkman hypoallergenic NuThera (which is legal).... and I just

opened the capsules into food. They're small and the taste isn't bad.

Hi Again,

Correction: I wrote before and told you we had several SCD-legal

supplements, designed to support children on the spectrum. I've since been

told that what I said isn't quite accurate. These liquid supplements

contain a tiny amount of xanthan gum, so they are technically not

SCD-legal. The more accurate way to say it is that these supplements have

been approved by Elaine Gottschall for use on the specific carbohydrate

diet. Elaine and our founder, who developed the supplements, talked

extensively, and she decided to approve them for use on the SCD, despite

the miniscule amount of xanthan gum. The list of approved liquid

supplements has changed slightly as well:

Spectrum Support Ultra-Sensitive Formula

(multivitamin/mineral supplements)

NightCal (liquid calcium) - Flavored and unflavored versions

LiquiZinc (liquid zinc) - Flavored and unflavored versions

Sorry to intrude on your list, please forgive if this offends anyone.
