What will you learn at the lecture?

At the lecture you'll learn about the brain and how it functions. We'll discuss what can go wrong and show you how training with neurofeedback can help. People who attend tell us it's fascinating.

We'll hook up a volunteer to a special computer and watch them change their brain. We'll answer questions such as:

--Can training be done while on medications?

--How quickly can it improve attention, sleep, anxiety, or mood?

--Do the improvements last?

--Can people reduce their meds by training their brain? If so, how?

--Is it based on solid research and science?

People don't always realize medications for ADHD, anxiety, depression and sleep are designed to change the brain. The changes are temporary. Neurofeedback is an innovative type of biofeedback. By training the brain with neurofeedback individuals learn to manage their brain better rather than rely on medications. A well trained brain has greater control over impulsivity, learning, cognitive function, and emotional regulation. When brain function improves, everything else improves--attention, mood, and behavior.

This lecture explains why the technology known as neurofeedback is so powerful -- and how it can help individuals create long term changes.

Sincerely,

Cohen - Director of Training

A Sampling of Client Cases from the Center for Brain Training:

CASE 1: A 28 YEAR OLD WHO COULDN'T SLEEP

A 28 year old was brought to our center by his mother, a nurse. The mother said her son hadn't been able to sleep a single night since age 3 or 4 without medications. She had taken him to various experts for years. They gradually put him on a mix of medications enabling him to sleep. There was no way for him to fall asleep without medication. Nevertheless, he didn't really function well on medications and often slept 10-12 hours a night. After training with neurofeedback once a week for about a 3 month period, he went on a trip. During the trip he realized he had forgotten his medications and yet was still able to sleep 3 nights on his own. This was the first time in his life he ever remembered being able to sleep in this way. After continued training, he reported 7 nights of sleep without any medications. More importantly, he was able to reduce his sleep to only 8 hours while achieving increased alertness during the day and greater clarity of mind. Neurofeedback helped him change his pattern of sleep, and this allowed him to learn to sleep in a more normal fashion.

CASE 2: A 7 YEAR OLD WITH MELTDOWNS

A year ago, a mom brought her seven year old daughter to the Center for Brain Training. While on 3 medications for ADD, the daughter continued to suffer from serious meltdowns several times a week. This seven year old would lose control for up to an hour at a time. Her mother was very concerned about the amount of medications she was taking, especially considering there was little result. Additionally, there was a family history of serious mental health problems. After training with neurofeedback over several months, her daughter learned to control her emotions. The mother reported that her daughter is now doing very well in school, and rarely has emotional outbursts. This little girl now describes how she is able to go into her room to quiet herself on her own whenever she is feeling over aroused. Prior to neurofeedback, this was impossible.

CASE 3: A MOM WITH PANIC ATTACKS

The 35 year old mother of an active 2 year old came in with anxiety--having up to 5 panic attacks a day. She reported that the panic attacks were taking over her life. She had suffered with anxiety since the age of 17. She also experienced mild depression and was on an antidepressant. She wanted to have another child and desired an alternative to medications in order to resolve the anxiety before she became pregnant. As she began treatment, she explained that she had to talk herself into coming because she was so anxious. After 12 sessions, she no longer had the anxiety or panic attacks and had reduced her medication in half.
