Guest guest
Hi Kim, We NEVER did the intro. I guess I'm not as tough as some of those moms out there who went through whatever they had to to get it done. is doing very well having just jumped into SCD and never having looked back. However, you need to be STRICT -- no store-bought foods, go slowly even if the menu is boring. Sue (from Pickering) Mom to , 4.5, formerly? Guest guest
like I said boring is not an issue because of my sons sensory issues in his mouth. He has ate boring for three years and it does not phase him one bit. thanks > Hi Kim, > > We NEVER did the intro. Guest guest
Kim, The reason I suggested to start over is because the best success stories have come from the people who started at the beginning. Since you have been feeding illegal foods for quite some time, I suggested starting over to give your son's gut a chance to rest and begin to heal more quickly. You are free to follow and begin the diet in any way that you choose. We have just seen the best results from starting from the beginning and going slow. Guest guest
Kim, I agree with Sue. Lots of families who've been members of this list have started SCD by pulling all the illegals and skipping the intro. Quite a few have gone BACK and done intro at some point later on..... so that could be an option if you get to where you just have an instinct that it could benefit him (and you feel prepared to do it..... it's only two days). But, the MOST important part is GET THE ILLEGALS OUT...... and that really means every single shred. Check and re-check any potential sources (supplements, etc) and resist the urge to buy store bought applesauce .... things like that. If you can hang in there for a while doing this, you may be able to do intro later for a couple of days if you feel he's really needing it. We're all stressed-out moms..... so we know what you're feeling like. Do what you can. Getting him completely legal will make a huge difference. Keep a journal of foods he's eating..... and the changes you see in him.... positive or negative. Patti, mom to Katera ----- Original Message ----- I keep hearing dont do this at first, dont do that, Ive tried to ask this question a couple of times so here it goes again. What Ive gotten out of the book is that if the gut is tolerating certain foods and has healed part way, it is not neccessary to start the diet from the beginning. Why did I also agree with that? my son eats very picky and has sensory issues. If I can sneak things in his ground meats then he eats it. Its the only way to get nuts and more vegtables. Is this ok in your opinions to start and skip the beginning phase. Due to the fact we have a child whom used to have very chronic runny stools, bloating, gas, pain, behaviors, rank smelling weird colored stools, tons of undigested food in the stool etc. He no longer has any of those symptoms. Ive dedicded to still go slow example add nuts to meat and wait a few days and watch for reactions. My next thing I will try is egg.although I have tossed out soy and cookies and now the almond milks from the store. please forgive me if I come off as snobby I am very overwhelmed in all areas of my life right now but I need to never put my son on hold. So Im going through a storm and thankful you guys are here for me . I also understand this list is huge and I may not be manipulating it right and some of my questions might get missed. Its only been a few days and he seems to be doing better already. I will be getting yogurt started some time this week. thanks again tristans mom 5yr old autistic For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following websites: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info and http://www.pecanbread.com
