Give him some extra TLC and fluids - maybe an epsom salt bath tonight. Are you seeing other signs of die-off, like behavioral issues? If so, you may want to try some activated charcoal. Also, were all those foods things he could tolerate before? We do try to add things slowly, but those foods are good to start with. How much of the fruit and squash is he eating? Let us know how he's doing, die off can last up to a couple of weeks... son - 5yo ASD, SCD 15 months
Guest guest
Tali, My son did the same thing - chronic constipation to D! We were also doing a yeast treatment at the same time so I was using charcoal at bedtime as previously suggested. He had no poop for 3 days as we did the into and then the D continued for about 1 week without any sign of letting up. About that time I forgot to do the charcoal one night and the next day we had shifted to soft but formed. I don't know if it was a coincidence, but we didn't go back to the charcoal since it seemed to have served it's purpose and his irritability had stopped. He had also begun to embrace the new diet - which was huge because he had only eaten 5 foods for the past 18 months. Now (at 4+ weeks) we are consistently at soft formed with a " trophy " every 3rd day and only D when he eats too many nut cookies or has a true intestinal virus (everyone in the family got it). Hang in there! AMK - mom to Will PDDNOS SCD 5 weeks > > Could it still be die-off? Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I'm glad to know it can be die-off. My son won't take the activated charcoal, so unfortunately I can't use it to help with the die-off. He didn't really eat these foods before, so I can't be sure if he tolerates them, but I really felt that after a month I needed to broaden his diet quickly. I just had a feeling as a mother that this child was hungry and needed carbs, so I tried to find the best-tolerated ones. Now, on our second day of the expanded diet, he seems a lot less hungry and happier. I don't know what will happen with the diarrhea, because he had no stool today. I am limiting the fruits to 3/day because of the fructose. He is not having that much squash, but is there any reason I should be limiting it? I mean, don't go from three bites to three cups in one day, for example. Every kid is different.... and at this point, with lots of changes going on in his body, just use common sense and go slow. Patti, mom to Katera, who can eat butternut squash just about as fast as I can peel and steam it.
