I'm surprised they didnt confiscate it IMMEDIATELY

No, it took awhile for my hospital stay to get to the state police records, plus I was there for almost two weeks, so there was no one home to hand it over to themr.

You *do* realize that most people convicted of first-offense DWI

are not habitual drunkards, right?

At least not until AA gets its hands on them, anyway . . . .

Pete.... Sound reasoning.

This is the most darkly funniest thing I've seen since the stepper

pewter figurines. I laughed out loud.

I'm surprised they didnt confiscate it IMMEDIATELY!

If the psycho above my apartment had a gun she wouldnt just bang on

the floor to wake me up, she'd be spraying me with bullets!

Hmmm... the fact that someone can endanger life irresponsibly with a

vehicle couldnt have anything to do with the possibly that they might

behave irresponsibly under the influence with a weapon too, could it?

As a friend sagely reminded me when we discussed such things a few

years ago, " America is a foreign country " .

A freind of mine from my AA days went to Kmart to buy a 12ga shotgun, his

having been invited to go hunting by one of his friends. He is a convicted

habitual offender, (multiple DWIs), which at the time he was convicted was a

felony in Virginia. He did a year in the county jail, but was spared the

Virginia prison system, which is third-world class. Naturally, when he

filled out the permit app, he checked off no to the " Have you ever been

convicted of a felony? " block. This is before instant background checks and

24 hour waits. One day about five weeks hence, he turns the corner into his

street and what's sitting in his driveway but a Virginia State Trooper

cruiser. He parks, gets out as says, " You looking for my son, Officer? "

Trooper sez: " Are you Xxxxx, Sr.? " Pat sez yes. " I'm looking for

you, sir. " Out come the handcuffs and Miranda card. EIght months and $10,000

later, old Pat gets his right to own his shotgun (which he gave to me to

hold) back. Seems HO was downgradred to a misdemeanor sometime after he was

convicted as a felon, so Pat's lawyer got the judge to take a plea to some

misdemeanor on the perjury (signing the false application) and commuted to

time served. The ten large was for the lawyer, who filed a Petition for

Reinstatement of Civil Rights with the Virginia Secretary of the

Commonwealth. So Pat got his shotgun back all legal. One expensive shotgun.

Go figure.

It would be interesting to know exactly what civil right was supposed to be

involved in that petition. I can think of a couple of relevant 'rights'

issues: the right to enjoy property and not have it seized by the state

without due process; the right to be free from arbitrary discrimination.

Would you not agree that if the law said it was ok for Whites but not Blacks

to own guns that it would be a civil rights issue?

So owning a gun is a "civil right" is it? Barf!

Yeah, it IS MY civil right to protect myself and my home, if you don't want a gun in your home, then don't have one. I have 6 grandkids and they ALL know that Grammas bedroom is off limits and they have known this since they were able to walk and get into my things. In the past two year I have been mugged once, knocked to the ground and robbed, but luckily someone came along before they got my precious jewelry that my grandmother had given me, then I got my car broken into twice, once they took a laptop out of my trunk that I had just put in there on my way to work, I was only back in my house for something like 2 minutes and they snatched it, my garage windows have been broken out twice, once they got a set of 2,000.00 gold clubs, PLUS, my house has been broken into, between the hours of 8 am and 4 30 pm - broad daylight, and the first time they wiped me out of about 6,000 worth of jewelry, one thing being a tie !

tack of my fathers who had just died a month before and I had it converted to a necklace and they got that too. If I had ever caught any of these people in the act I would not have HESITATED to pursue my civil rights and shoot the hell out of them. Who thought of MY civil rights when my hard earned money was being carted off by worthless thieves? A few doors down from me there is an elderly couple in their 80's that live alone and one day two guys came to their door and forced their way in and started to beat them up to rob them, what they didn't know was that the grandson was there for a visit and he was in one of the bedrooms, he came out with both barrels blasting and the whole neighborhood cheered that these no good bastards got what they deserved. He wounded them just enough to keep them from leaving the scene for when the police could get there.

I firmly believe in anyone's right to bear arms if they want to and not to if they don't want to. It is a choice that each person has to make for themselves, but no one has the right to make it for ME!

over the death penalty also.

Having just been told I am stupid and would let my grandparents be murdered, I am thinking of leaving THIS list.

I didnt see anyone call YOU stupid, I said someone called ME stupid, re-read my post and see for yourself! They were making a valid point, what WOULD you rather have done in that situation, stand there helpless while your grandparents were being beaten or be ale to defend them? Some choice, huh?

I don't believe the analogy is as difficult to understand as you pretend.

The " right " involved is the right to buy, sell, and own property on an equal

footing with any other citizen. If DWI is a crime that can be " paid for " by

serving a jail sentence, then tacking on some lifelong reduction in property

rights amounts to capricious discrimination. And if it isn't capricious

discrimination, then the penalty amounts to a judgment that multiple DWI,

rather than being a crime, is a symptom of disease.

It costs more to execute someone now than to house them for many YEARS in

prison

Re: OT: What's up with that? Guns?

Sue,

I wonder what Pistol Pete would have done if his grandparents were

being beat up by thugs. Perhaps he would persuade them to stop and

then wait for the police to get there. Pete goes bonkers over the

death penalty also. If the thugs would have killed grandma and

grandpa, then Pete would be for maintaining the thugs for years and

years and years. Barf.

" maintaining " people in prison (for years and years) costs the taxpayers

much less than executing them does.
