Guest guest
Is that $30,000 for an IC or in house? With benefits, it is not too bad. For an IC, it would not be enough. Just my 2 cents. -- Salary Survey in ADVANCE for HIM The current ADVANCE arrived yesterday just as I was wrapping up the semester, and I barely had time to check the TOC. One article of interest compared salaries for several medical-record related jobs, based on a survey. it's also on the website (http://www.advanceforhim.com/common/editorial/editorial.aspx?cc=1233). According to this survey, with 10 transcriptionists responding, the average salary is about $30K. Coders, with 29 responding, earn an average of $33.5K. Transcription managers (2 respondents) earn an average of $43.4K. HIM directors (16) earn $49K. There are too few respondents for me to draw the conclusion that the results are definitive. Guest guest
That's probably a fairly good average (note I said average) for MTs who are employees with benefits. It includes newbies at maybe $9 to $12 an hour and also your experienced MTs at $15 to $20 an hour. So as an average, $30 probably is about right. That number, I believe would be higher for ICs (self only) and even for subcontractors. Just my gut feeling from observing the MT community for a couple of years. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rennie My Home Page: http://www.renesue.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Salary Survey in ADVANCE for HIM The current ADVANCE arrived yesterday just as I was wrapping up the semester, and I barely had time to check the TOC. Guest guest
Well, it would be real nice if my husband had insurance, but reality is that we are both self-employed. We pay nearly $800 a month for health insurance and it is killing us, but we are about 10 years from retirement and cannot do without it. It is just too risky. Our reality is we get only long weekends for vacations, have to pay out of pocket for health insurance and union dues to get good insurance (or it WAS good insurance), and I work my ___ off to pay for everything. Would I go to work for anyone else to get benefits? No. I like my independence. It does come at a price, but independence to us is important. -- Salary Survey in ADVANCE for HIM The current ADVANCE arrived yesterday just as I was wrapping up the semester, and I barely had time to check the TOC. Guest guest
That is so sad how expensive ins.is. My husband does have insurance and I am so thankful because no one would insure me with MS and my MS med is $1350.00 a month, but with ins. $15/mo. Guest guest
Val, I know what you mean. I have had to drop our regular insurance. I'm using AARP for my insurance now. I don't get a lot from them, but it is better than my old insurance and the premiums are a lot lower. We are in the bracket of between 50 and 65. My husband has acid reflux. One insurance guy stated that, " we only give insurance to healthy people. " I always thought that insurance was for people that have health problems. " What do I know? " It is getting worse all the time. I just hope that I stay healthy for the next ten years. Guest guest
And I am part time with social security disability. But I am blessed to be able to live at mom's taking care of her so I don't have to worry about rent and health insurance is medicare so I take what I can and add what I can. I have to believe that God will take care of me. So, even though I have SSD and MT pay it will never equal 30,000. If I have to downsize my apartment living down the line, I will but...who really knows their future. Aliceanne At 05:19 PM 12/18/2002 -0700, Valpie wrote: ><<Is that $30,000 for an IC or in house?
