HCG shows up in the blood before it shows up in the urine, so a blood test today would give you a definitive answer. Do you want a definitive answer today? (hypothetical...of course you do, so GO! GO!) Blood HCG level is what it is. If you are pg, then it is higher than 5. Of course, if the levels are low, there is a potential problem with the pregnancy. > > Now, about progesterone. In other words, are > there any situations in which a patient should be on progesterone > earlier than, say 18 dpo? How are those pts identified? Yes, it is my understanding that progesterone should be given, if necessary, starting at 7DPO as it is what makes a pregnancy " stick " and helps to ensure the viability of the pregnancy by increasing the lining and some other things. Did you have your 7DPO progesterone checked? How do you know it's low? > > Are there any books on all this so I can stop BOTHERING you folks? DK, but you are no bother! Did you have your 7DPO progesterone > checked? How do you know it's low? Dammit. I *called* them and the nurse refused. She said I had to wait until I was confirmed pg. Snarl. I *thought* that was wrong. How can these people call themselves nurses? How can they be put in charge of people's BABIES when they don't have a clue?? My doc would like me on progesterone b/c I have fluctuating lp lengths, very long cycles and a hx of early loss. I wish you had a + ...hang in there. Mel, I don't understand this. I'm not a doctor, but I play one on the internet. Every single thing that I read about progesterone supplementation says that taking it AFTER you are confirmed pg is too late to help. I'm sure there must be a dissention among docs out there, but I thought this was common knowledge. AND (stepping up onto the box), I would think that since you have a hx of early losses, they would be MORE inclined to play it safe with progesterone. JEEZ. Getting down now...sorry. Not a good day for me, either. Mel, I'm wishing a positive for you as much as I want it for myself. Can THEY have >false negatives? Should I wait a few more days? You have nerves of steel. If my LP was normally 11 days, I would have tested at 12...I wouldn't have made it to 13! I would do the blood test. The only way it could give you a 'false' positive would be if you were experiencing a chem pregnancy or had had an hcg shot less than 10 days ago. If its over 5, you are pg. Another reason to get the blood test would be progesterone. In everything I have read, the earlier, the better. My doc, like yours will generally not give prog supps til after pg is confirmed. But some docs use it as a standard protocol, starting prog immediately after O in IUI cycles. My doc gave me the option of prog supps after O, but I declined until we are monitoring cycles (I don't want to put my body through it during the months I ov on the wrong side.) >Can funky progesterone levels affect >really early pg development or implantation? Yes, in that the prog may not stay high enough to allow a fertilized egg to get so far as to implant. >Are there any books on all this so I can stop BOTHERING you folks? Who is bothering who? That's what we are here for!! On pins and needles for you,
