Guest guest
Rosie, Welcome to the list. How did you start SCD? How long ago? What all is he eating right now? Also, peanuts are not actually nuts, they are legumes. Reacting negatively to peanuts does not mean he may not be able to tolerate true nuts (almonds, cashews, pecans, etc.). Guest guest
We have been doing SCD since July. My biggest question is can you avoid high salicylate foods and still maintain a ballanced diet on SCD? > > Rosie, > > Welcome to the list. > > How did you start SCD? > How long ago? > > What all is he eating right now? > > Also, peanuts are not actually nuts, they are legumes. Guest guest
Hi! There are many of us on the board that are following SCD and restricting salicylates/phenols, some are more restricted than others. Peanuts are a med/high sal. There are other nuts that are lower. Sam does ok with some PB but does have build up reactions so I have to watch how much he gets. Cashews and pecans are pretty low sal. We use these fine in any recipe that calls for almond flour or other nut butters. My best advice is to do what is best for your child. If you need to substitute pineapple juice for grape go for it. As long as it's SCD legal and your child is tolerating it well, then there should be no problem. Some of the low sal. veggies are harder to digest that others (ie broccoli and cauliflower.) If your child can tolerate them, you can add them in earlier; the stages on the pecanbread site are guide lines, you do not have to follow them to the letter. If, however, your son seems to be reacting or his stools change for the worse and don't seem to bounce back, you can always take a step back and remove the harder to digest foods. It's very possible to do a low sal. version of SCD. Here's a list of what Sam gets regularly Protein - variety of meats, goat cheddar/gouda, goat yogurt baked goods made with peanut butter, cashew butter or pecan flour, honey, coconut oil Fruits/veggies - mango, papaya, banana, pear, lime juice, pineapple juice, sliced tomatoes (occasionally,) broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, carrots, occasional snow peas, spinach, kale, cucumbers Chrystee Sam, 5, NT, sensory/behavior issues, salicylate sensitive SCD 8 months > > I am just looking for some feedback on this...We introduced cheddar > cheese the other day with my 18 month old and he seems to be fine. > We also took away his peanutbutter because we are concerned about a > salicylate sensitivity. Guest guest
Hi Rosie, Welcome and I wish you the best of luck with this diet. Although my son occasionally eats a peanut or cookies made with almond flour, he doesn't really crave it or request it. We also have our son eating some dairy (cheddar, also) and he seems to be ok with it.. -Michal G wrote: I am just looking for some feedback on this...We introduced cheddar cheese the other day with my 18 month old and he seems to be fine. We also took away his peanutbutter because we are concerned about a salicylate sensitivity. Since we stopped the peanutbutter the tantrums and irritability have improved. Has anyone had similar experiences or even the opposite experience. My big concern is that if he can't have nuts how is he going to stay on this diet? Thanks, Rosie For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following websites: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info and http://www.pecanbread.com
