Dear Michele, that's so awesome that Aubrie's doing great with these things.

It takes me back. was pretty good at karate too when she was little,

but to her it was a " guy sport " so she didn't persue it. I think its a great

thing for them. I wish she'd stayed with it, might have if I'd looked for a

different class with another instructor. But this instructor was so good with

her, with all the kids. Aubrie can call me-I'll buy cookies!!!!anytime!!!!

I haven't had anything to post lately. Our newest thing is that Aubrie is a

Brownie so this is our first year selling Girl Scout cookies. I was

dreading it, but she's doing so well! She has made several sales over the

phone and done a decent job of speaking clearly! I can't believe it! I

stay on the other extension so I can clarify, hear the order to record it,

etc, but she does the bulk of the conversation. Of course, the people we

are calling know her well enough that they immediately know it's her when

she begins and are very patient with her speech. But they are understanding

her - so cool. She's feeling quite important and successful with it.

Another side note - she earned her half-gold/yellow belt in karate already.

Now they will move to full youth belts so her next will be all gold. If she

keeps moving along, she'll be a black belt in about 2 years! When I asked

how that could be, I found out that there is a different class of youth and

adult belts so you can get your youth black belt and then start the adult

series moving from adult gold/yellow to adult black. Anyway, I'm so

impressed with her progress already. In class, I'm having to coach her less

and less and she becomes more capable and more skilled and knowing what's

expected.

Yea, I wish we could ship cookies cuz we know as many or more people far

away than we do in town... But I am surprised at how many local sales she's

had so far. We don't have any family here, don't work with a large group of

co-workers, so it seems like our customer-base is smaller than most others.

But maybe not, after all...

Michele,

This is such a wonderful post. I can remember that just recently you were

worried about Aubrie not being able to use a phone. Now look at her!

You just got answered.

So cool!

These are packaged cookies that are sold nationwide. Thankfully, we have to

sell and deliver, but we don't have to actually bake them.

Yes, it's good to know that there is " normality " ahead. Although Aubrie has

lots of differences, our lives are essentially " normal " . We have more dr

visits, therapies to deal with, etc. When selling cookies, she called all

of her " people " first as they are most likely to understand her over the

phone and were good guinea pigs for her first attempts. No matter how your

" normal " shapes itself, it is " normal " . Does that make sense?

Anyway -- one day, Amelie will be doing whatever " normal " is -- and you'll

rejoice and look at her in wonder and awe remembering where she was at one

year old. I still marvel at Aubrie when I consider how far she's come and

all my worries in her infancy.

Way to go Aubrie! That is such a nice share and a good measure of her

improvement in speech. All that bi-pap must now seem worth the effort. And

gosh, selling cookies seems such a big girl thing to do.

And what about that karate belt? Now you know I am someone who knows the

effort that goes into every single belt achievement so HUGE congrats to

Aubrie. Bet you are noticing the improvement in co-ordination? Can't wait

till can start. Tell Aubrie to keep an eye and effort out for that

black belt. Took me a bit longer than 3 years to get mine, and as for

Simon, we won't even mention how long it took for him to get his...........

I was surprised at how quickly Aubrie improved in karate. I wonder if that

will continue or if she'll hit a plateau of sorts somewhere.

It's been interesting after the holiday break. In math, they do timed tests

on the addition facts. Before break, she could do around 20/min. After,

she's getting 11-12. Then we went horseback riding today. She had a very

hard time sitting up straight! Lost lots of strength in her back and tummy

over the few weeks we've missed.

Now about speech - you know, this is the surgery we are considering. I am

so confused about what to do. Will keep researching and post as I have

clearer thoughts to share and get help on.

Michele,

This is so awesome on both counts, cookies and Karate.
