I think that's what this is all about (mailing lists, parenting info on the net etc) I know I didn't read the book because I don't like the concept of Crying It Out (CIO) I know what I " ve been told by others, I know what I've read on the net, but there is no way I would get the book...understand what I mean? I don't understand how any nursing mother could see breastfeeding as incest. Just unusual... I saw the 20\20 episode and the reporter asked the little girl if she liked BFing and she said and I quote " its wonderful, it makes me grow strong " sounds to me like that fact has been drilled into her head. I realize that we all have different opinions on how we should parent and what works for each of us is different, but I truly can't see how BFing a five yo child is benefiting anyone. There are a million other ways those people could comfort their daughter. They're certainly not doing it for nutritional reasons, So why? would any of you BF your 5yo? If it is a comfort thing, what is wrong with it? I see no difference in nursing at 5 months or 5 years. Only thing that is different is the public's idealism that nursing a child is sexual, nursing a baby is not. I don't think I will be nursing Cory at 5 years because he will be exposed to the public and will see how un-normal that is and would probably not want to nurse anymore. I just don't seem to be able to understand how it gets turned into a sexual thing and not just a habit or routine that this particular family has choosen not to give up. I do not practice all aspects of AP either, but I do practice co-sleeping with my 2 little ones ages 18 months and almost 4 months, and I nurse them both. Anyway, you are right about doing what is right for the betterment of your family, I would just think about choosing what one book says. I can't see why it is more nutritional to give your 5 yo cows milk over mommysmilk!!!! Especially, because milk proteins can be so hard for some kids to digest. My 18 mo is allergic to milk and is still nursing. I will nurse him as long as he likes because he is getting everything he needs from nursing. In some cultures and some parts of the world they nurse their babies until around 7 years...why do their babies get better thatn mine?????? I thought I was making the best decision to vaccinate but have since changed my mind and won't be doing anymore. Homeopathic vaccines are a possibility but not traditional. Were you using bottles or pacifiers at all? Also were you doing a lot of night nursing? I am learning more about this and have been hearing a lot of conflicting information. In countries where babies are exclusively nursed round the clock and comforted at the breast as well, have a much farther spacing between children, on average of four years. Yet, I have heard so many stories of women getting pregnant right away while nursing. I am just trying to learn all I can if you are comfortable sharing. Thanks. I never had a period though, because I got pregnant that time. Christian is now 4 months and I think I will keep dh a good arms length away, lol.
