Guest guest
Well, Jeff...Tonight I'll be wearing a pair of black shorts and a nice maroon t-shirt. This will be complimented by my pair of black Vans shoes. I'll have a matching purse...Ummm...Ignore that. -- S. -----Original Message-----From: Fleetion Medic Sent: Tuesday, April 17, 2001 1:45 PMTo: OSSG-NewEngland Subject: What Will You Be Wearing Tonight? Guest guest
- Ya' know, after reading this email, I sat back in my chair and got all serious for a moment and did some "soul searching". I've ALWAYS been the guy to make people laugh. I kid you not, some of my friends, when having a really bad day, would call me on the phone, knowing I'd get them laughing. I think making people laugh is probably connected to me trying to be "accepted" by everyone, even though I was overweight. Not that this was necessarily needed, for I know that my close friends like me for ME...but I do think there's a connection. OK...too much serious thinking. My brain is going to start to sizzle in a minute! I am going to make every effort to make it to the meeting in May. I gotta meet you guys! PS-I have my pre-op meeting with Dr. Mun this Thursday, then we schedule surgery! YAHOOOOO! Stay safe everyone. Jeff ~My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance.~ From: AFLaRhette@... Guest guest
Hi Jeff. That's because you're supposed to be jolly. Everyone knows that fat guys are supposed to be jolly, right? Actually, I feel the same way...I guess when you're big you have to be able to 1> Laugh at yourself to keep from going insane and 2> make people laugh so they get past appearances and get to know the person...Making people laugh is probably the fastest way to do this. Of course there are other ways but they usually take longer. I figure make people laugh and feel good and you're more likely to have the chance to have deeper conversations and show how intellectual can be. Hehe...But I like making people laugh. It gives me something to focus on. Besides, it's not hard to feel like you're a really funny guy...Whenever you feel that maybe you're not as funny as you think you are, watch old episodes of the Love Boat. -- S. -----Original Message-----From: Fleetion Medic Sent: Sunday, April 22, 2001 7:35 PMTo: OSSG-NewEngland Subject: Re: What Will You Be Wearing Tonight? - Ya' know, after reading this email, I sat back in my chair and got all serious for a moment and did some "soul searching". Guest guest
Hey Jeff, I agree with you about being funny. People tell me all the time that I am. I have figured that it was a good defence mechanism like said. Make them laugh before they laugh at you. As a result, I have a very sarcastic sense of humor. Needless to say, Don Rickles is one of favorites. I have always said thank God for my sense of humor because I have always been able to look at the absurd things in life like, why yellow smiley faces don't have a nose. If you know any good stand-up comedian, you would also know that they are probably, as a group, the most screwed up people in the world. We all want appreciation to a certain degree, but they thirst for it in a public forum. So, keep happy and I love your tag lines. Guest guest
Jeff, I know exactly why you guys have a ghoulish sense of humor. It's your mental protection from what you have to deal with on a daily basis. That's my stress relief. When I said before that I can always see the absurd side of life, I meant like with everything. If you saw me at my mother's funeral, you would have thought I was heartless. But, I escaped the stress of the occasion by laughing and remembering the fun times we had. I don't know how you guys do what you do, I swear. I sure as hell never could do it. Regarding the story of the heroin OD, who says drugs make you stupid? I always said there should be two types of jails. Regular jail for real criminals and a stupid jail for idiots. I can hear the judge now. " You tried to rob a bank by writing a note on the back of your deposit slip that had your name and address on it? You're going to stupid jail! " The person you helped last night sounds like a prime candidate, not to mention his friend. Don
Guest guest
Don- Stand up comedians are definately messed up, but my money is on those that work EMS. Some of the Paramedics and EMT's are the most screwed up people alive. I think it's probably kind of a stress relief, but I can tell you that there's times when we'll be riding home from the hospital in the ambulance, and have to pull over because we are ALL laughing so hard we'd probably crash. That's usually when someone will say, "Can you even IMAGINE that they PAY US for this job???" hahahaha. Not that laughing at someone elses misfortune is a good thing, but there's usually some humor we can find with just about every call. Last night, we had a heroin overdose...the guy's lying on the floor, barely breathing, and unconscious. He, and the hardwood floor is absolutely soaking wet. "What the HELL is all this water on the floor?" I ask. His buddy replies..."Well, when I found him unconscious, I poured a piture of water on him to wake him up". It was all we could do to keep from busting out laughing. So, we all proceeded to slip and squeak on this soaking wet hardwood floor while we did our thing. Then, after giving him some medication, he wakes up, and I ask him, "So, what drugs did you do tonight?" The reply, of course..."I don't do drugs, man!" My canned reply, "Hey, stupid...don't f*ck with me. We just brought you back to life. What drugs have you been doing?" "Oh, only 2 bags of heroin". I dunno...maybe it's just me, but I find my sense of humor getting wierder and wierder by the minute. Not that that's a bad thing. :-) Stay safe everyone. Guest guest
: You have the same sense of humor as Jeff. Although your letter has meaning behind it you did make me think. Everything you say is true. Getting people to like you first from humor gives you the chance to get that same person to like you after really getting to know you. Another way to look at it...Who cares why you make someone laugh? You enjoy it plus it feels good to smile :>) Post-op 3/1/01 Dr. Thayer
