Okay I am going to play the devils advocate on this one. Taking family or friends with is a good idea, we went to the pain management the psychologist had no problem with my husband being in there, that wasn't the problem what was the problem is when one of my very best friends went in with me to my doctor who is managing my pain care a couple time. But the last time she went with me she started to grill about what he plans on doing with my care and that he should be getting off these pain medications. I was so embarrasses I wanted to call my doctor back and tell him I was so sorry.

I agree ....i have taken friends and family members with me when I was in counseling. I would ask your dr about bring a relative or close friend in. I can't see how he can deny you since he isn't breaking any confidentiality rule if you want the person there listening in...take care...ginny Nation wrote:

Wait a minute here. There's something wrong with this picture. As long as you are agreeable to a person sitting in, the doctor shouldn't have a problem with it--unless he has something to hide. I'm going to ask my psychologist about that when I see her again.

Is what your friend did how you really feel? Did he answer her questions? If he did and that is how you feel then you have nothing to be sorry for. I tell them that evey day. The only difference is I WONT TAKE THE MEDS. I don't take them, I don't want them. I have taken them for my pack pain and when they didn't help so I stopped them. It just makes me mad that the dr don't want to listen. I tell them one day maybe they will have pain like this and there will be no one to help them and then they will know what we are going through. I am not trying to be mean just trying to get them to look at it in a different life.

Sheri,

Your words ...

The only difference is I WONT TAKE THE MEDS. I don't take them, I don't want

them.

kind of reminds me of ME. I do not take any meds. I did for several years, but

they did not agree with me, in one way or another, and didn't do anything for

me.

However, my Doctors get very, very frustrated with me, as well as having

sympathy for my plight. They want to make me feel better, but I won't do the

one thing they believe will make me have less pain. Mind you, they've watched

me go through all of the meds you can think of, none of them have been

effective, some I've been very allergic to, etc. Then they wonder why I won't

try something new and improved...

It's very difficult for a Dr. to deal with such a patient. I feel badly for

mine, honestly. I know they want to help but are stymied with my reluctance to

take any meds...

On the days when I am literally crying in their office, I see them look at me

and wonder how they can help, but knowing they can't..

Of course, those are GOOD Doctors, who truly care about their patients.

Everyone needs some of those.

Hugs,

Jo

Jo, if you take no meds, do you have an SCS and if you do not why not....did

you try and it not work.....what I am wondering is if you can take no meds,

and refuse any new meds, what treatments do you get? If none, why spend

the time and money for a doctor as they can't help you or am I just jumping

in here without the full story? Being have almost 400 emails that do think

need to delete as just cannot get on here enough, there is great likelihood

that I have missed something. So anyway, really would like to understand

what if anything would you go to a doctor for if you do not have any say SCS

and no meds? Just curious Jo, I would like to stop doctor appts. and maybe

that is the way to do so. I really look forward to learning from you about

this. Thanks Jo.

JoAnn,

I don't take the meds cause they don't work. I can't see putting somthin in mybody that don't work. A lot of the meds that I here all of you taking I have tried. When they failed I decided not to take them. I do a lot of crying alot of mind blocking therapy, and a lot of time sleeping. Im not sure about Jo but I just wanted to tell you why I don't take them. As for dr the only reason I keep dr appointments is to try and get the scs. But that was put on hold again. Gotta start surching for new dr again. If you read my past email they will explain. They were I'm p***ed, and I hate dr update. If I can help you any more let me know.

Thanks Sheri and you will find that just wrote you directly asking same thing I asked Jo. But not knowing you well was not sure you would want me to ask on digest. Anyway now know it is due to SCS why keep going. But as asked in my note to you, if you were not trying for SCS or anything like that, would you still go to doctor? I would go maybe 2 times year just to see what is new or if something dramatic changed but other than that if had no med need to go, or pain treatment as Barb or SCS then would not waste my time as find them exhausting and tiring. So thanks for info Sheri, I now understand you reason but would really like to know now if not for SCS would you go? Hope that is not offensive to ask, just would like to get to place of not needing to go.

I have been trying to get the scs because that is what one on my dr stated that will help I go to the dr every week if not to the foot dr it is to the phychotherapist, and the other was nfero dr, plastic sergins ect. I have went to 15 different pain management dr 10 different physical theraopist and stiill no hope and the pain gets worst. I've seen my grandmother go into kindey failer with taking medication that did not help her. She took 15 different pills 3 times a day. When she came off dylasis she only needed 3 twice a day. The dr say that is what killed her. I can not see that happening to me. I'am sorry if people think I am harsh I just speak from experience. I sorry that I answered your question to Jo, but it seemed that she kinda felt the same way, maybe I misunderstood. And if I did then I am sorry. I wont let it happen again.

I personally can't imagine trying to handle this disease without the

medications. I did it for 2 years before I was diagnosed with my

ortho doc doing his best to try to keep me comfortable to no avail

using over the counter medications (aleve and motrin). My pain mgt

doctor put me on duragesic after my initial visit with vicoden for

break through pain and I am more able to function as a human now. My

philosophy has become.. I'd rather be able to somewhat live my live to

the fullest capabilities now than to withstand the agony and

depression I was in prior to the medicines. In all actuality we

choose the lesser of the two evils. I choose to live my life to the

fullest. This is my life that God has given me to live and it's not

my job to question why me. Why not me? His son suffered agony much

worse than I do. I hold firmly to the scripture... I can do ALL

things through Christ who strengthens me. During the lowest points in

my life since this disease I've been so angry at God for allowing this

to happen to me. I believe I've said this before though... whenever I

feel that way it doesn't take God long before he puts someone in my

path that is alot worse off than I am. I never miss his point. So I

drag myself out of the funk I allowed myself to fall into and I place

my trust back in him. I pray daily for my doctor. I know that he is

a man with much responsibility and holds the welfare of many people in

his hands. I am very fortunate to have found such a good solid

Christian man that feels empathy for his patients. He is definitely

an angel.

I know I have rambled on and on but I've seen so many emails the last

few days where people are feeling so low. I do pray that you can find

in yourself the strength you need to pull yourself together. It's

extremely hard when pain is so intense to think clearly and

rationally. Just remember that you are not alone no matter how lonely

you might feel. Many others care for you and how you are doing.

Search for the strength to withstand because you will get through the

bad time. We always do! That doesn't mean the bad time isn't any

less painful, just take care of yourself both mentally and physically.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers daily! We are united by a

terrible bond but a bond that is very secure because we do understand

what each one of us endures. So that means we are never alone.

Take care my friends,

I'm so glad to see some positive feedback regarding a negative

feeling. We all have our days where we have moments of self-pity (for

lack of a better word at the moment) and when we are at that level

something or someone inevitably comes along to prove that you can

indeed make it through the darkest hours.

I've seen some pretty low moments these days where I start to think I

should just get used to being the wy that I am. I will spend time

loathing everything and everyone who not only had to do with this

illness but have the ability to relieve some of it as well. It can be

a huge stress on your body to feel that way and when my pain level

creeps up it reminds me to step back and re-evaluate. It doesnt

always take away the anger and frustration but it is a good reminder

to be good to myself as Im the only one who can.

In any case, its great to see how people resolve their personal

demons whether it be thru religion, personal strives or yelling til

it hurts and then continuing on. They are all therapeutic in our

given circumstances and if it works continue!

Mnay gentle hugs to all!

So what I had the surgery before, so what I already went through the test, do it again. I keep trying to tell them that when they take 3to 4 months to figuare out what they want to do and then I have to start all over that I am loosing 1 year.

Jo,

I also have my dr telling me that the meds would help me but they don't know what there is to give me I have been on so many different meds that my dr doesn't know what he can do. I have been the one that has been the one that looks for different care, or for somthing that will help me. When I told him that I joined this group he was happy. He said maybe there is someone out there that can help you. So I keep looking and looking to get help and find a dr that will help me stop some of the pain.

There are so many meds that I have been on my dr office is working on a list. At one time they gave me one but I don't know where it went. I also move in the process and am still looking for stuff. The ones I can remember excuse my spelling it stinks are neurton, viox, evelil, oxicotten, topmax, ultrim, vicdon, duragesic, lacation patch, remron, paxil, zolloff, tordaull, morphine and I know that there a lot more. Those come to mind and I have been going through my papers and so far these are the ones I found. Still looking and as soon as I get them I will let you know. Thank you for the help.

Sheri - You make a really good point. All of this dilly-dallying around may feel fine to them but you're the one who is possibly missing out. 3 - 4 months is a LONG time when you feel like garbage.....It's a long time even when you feel good. Want me to call them and show them a calendar and ask them what kind of neat things they were able to do during that timeframe that you weren't able to do? I'll behave and won't call. Honest....but it's so frustrating to hear how some folks get dragged along. BarbaraSheri wrote:

I did get a call to day from my foot dr who has stood by me through everything. His office manager told me my phychotherapist just called her to day and he told her a different story. We just laughed. I also called another dr office and asked about an scs and told her alittle about me she told me to have the dr office call and they can get info on what they will need to get me an scs. Not getting my hopes up on this one. Have spent the better part of tonight in bed. My daughter had to change the bandage on my foot cause I was getting sick with the pain. I hate bad pain days. I am so glad I have her to help. She seems to understand. I think she thinks cause I am having bad week days we will be able to do somthing this weekend. I hope so.

Well good bye my new friend thank you for understanding.

Glad that I gave you a chuckle, Sheri. I hope you realize that in some ways I was serious. Three months out of your life are three months too many. We are entitled to get the best shot at relief and treatment in the shortest possible amount of time. If they need more info from you then they should sit down with you and detail what needs to transpire before they can get you on the list for the SCS. There's a way to handle this diplomatically without coming across as unduly demanding or caustic. Let me know how it goes for you. BarbaraSheri wrote:

Oh Barb you just so darn funny. Sheri personally would have her call as she has this will Yankee voice and deep, and think with all the fancy dirty words mixed in with the big words she could come across as really smart>>>...can't you Barb????

Love ya Barb

Love you too, JoAnn. Well, all this being said in the most Yankee accent that I can dredge up, I now must venture to work. Keep your fingers crossed that I arrive in one piece. If all else fails, I could surrender my previous career, paint myself in camouflage, and become a walking, ranting, maniacal advocate for everyone here. Have RSD will travel. Any takers? barbaraJoAnn & Russ Ford wrote:
