Guest guest
I think that may be an unfair statement. If originally the sodium lactate was from beets and corn, now just from beets, they don't have to rush out to buy new labels just to reflect that, since it's not really a change, just a refinement - they didn't add anything new. I can see if it were made from a totally different product. I think this is a great company with high quality products!> > > I appreciate that email from applegate but it just goes to show that they > change things and don't notify consumers. Guest guest
I was thrilled to see that I could get a legal hotdog! My son begs for them all the time and was so excited when I brought some home! I will watch for symptoms tomorrow to make sure they both handled ok - I need simple and quick sometimes! I appreciate whoever posted the info! Robbie Re: emails from applegate farms I think that may be an unfair statement. Guest guest
Hi Robbie..... and all..... Just know that these hotdogs are not considered technically or " officially " SCD legal. The decision to use them is individual..... and everyone needs to remember to weigh that decision carefully. At the very least, always read labels (even if it looks the same and you've been using a product for some time) but most importantly, watch how your child is doing. Also... do remember what happened a year or so ago with the Shelton's hot dogs. They changed their recipe to include potato starch..... without (of course) alerting anyone.... and only the watchful eye of another SCD parent caught it on their label. We all wondered at the time if the recipe might have been changed prior to their stock of the old packaging labels running out. Who knows? It's just the kind of thing that makes you lay awake at night sometimes (as if we didn't have enough stress, right?)...... and of course you don't have to worry when you make your own. I know, I know..... the convenience. I completely understand. I need it, too. I don't buy the hotdogs..... but I do use canned salmon. That's my convenience vice. You just have to have something that's ready at hand sometimes. I just love bulk cooking. I buy the gigantic packs of chicken thighs when they're 99 cents a lb. ...... bake them ALL at once (two 9x13 pans full), separate all the meat from bone and skin as soon as it's all cooled, then freeze two or three thighs-worth together in small ziplocks. Thaws quickly. Also love to cook two BIG meatloafs at a time....... slice thin when cooled and freeze in small amounts. Guest guest
Hi Donna and all, > Turkey Hot Dog: Turkey, Water, Salt, Spices (Paprika, White Pepper, > Garlic, Coriander, Mace, Onion, Ginger, Cardamom), Paprika, Fresh > Garlic, Onion This might be okay as long as it isn't garlic powder or any other free flow agents. > Chicken Hot Dog: Chicken, Water, Salt, Sodium Lactate (a natural salt > derived from corn and/or beets), Sea Salt, Honey, Onion, Spices > (Coriander, White Pepper, Mace, Pimento, Lemon Oil, Celery), Garlic > Powder The garlic powder is an illegal ingredient. The honey may not be pure. Some honey is cut with corn syrup and/or other illegal sweeteners. > Beef Hot Dog: Beef, Water, Salt, Sodium Lactate (a natural salt derived > from corn and/or beets), Sea Salt, Honey, Toasted Onion, Spices > (Coriander, White Pepper, Mace, Pimento, Lemon Oil, Celery) , Garlic > Powder The garlic powder is an illegal ingredient. The honey may not be pure. Some honey is cut with corn syrup and/or other illegal sweeteners. > Big Apple Hot Dog: Pork, Beef, Water, Sodium Lactate (a natural salt > derived from corn and/or beets), Sea Salt, Apple Juice, Fresh Garlic, > Spices (Paprika, White Pepper, Mace, Coriander, Onion, Ginger, Cardamom, > Cayenne Pepper), Paprika, Lamb Casing Apple juice is illegal. > Roasted Turkey Breast: Turkey, Water, Sodium Lactate (from beets), Salt, > Carrageenan (from seaweed) Carrageenan is illegal. > Smoked Turkey Breast: Turkey, Sodium Lactate (from Beets) Salt. > Carrageenan (from seaweed) As above, carrageenan is illegal. > Herb Turkey Breast: Turkey Breast , Water, Sodium Lactate (from beets), > Salt, Pepper, Onion, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, Thyme This may be okay if the onion is not onion powder and there are no free flow agents in the spices > Roast Beef: Beef, Sodium Lactate (from Beets), Salt, Pepper This one looks okay. TWo things to add: 1.) Elaine doesn't like the mass produced hot dogs, " I still don't like the idea of using these bought sausages. " she was referring to applegate hot dogs) from http://lyris.dundee.net/read/messages? id=262327#262327 and 2.) If someone decides to use these products please consider pulling them if you are having trouble or are not getting the results you'd like.
