With it seems more of a sensory type issue - he doesn't seem aware of when he needs to go, then does not seem to care that he has gone. Has anyone noticed inprovement in this with SCD? Guest guest
Ann, I think many of the kids have had looser or mushy type stools.... and I do know that SCD helps to firm them up to a " normal " formed stool (or, what we call " trophy " around here). Some kids tend to be very constipated before SCD..... and that can be a problem for potty training, too. SCD just seems to help get everyone to a more " happy medium " , BM-wise. Formed stools definitely help with kids being able to feel their BM coming..... and then to begin being more aware of the whole process in general. I know there is a lot more involved in the training process, depending on what each child's issues are (Katera is 8 and still not trained.... but she has CP, motor issues, plus sensory and cognitive issues).... but I was told by our developmental pediatrician that having good, regular, easy to pass, formed stools are essential to the bowell training process for any child. So, in that regard, I think SCD can help tremendously. One piece of the puzzle. I hope this helps a bit.... Guest guest
You mentioned that the child had immature reflexes still. I am wondering if the child is just very delayed globally. Infants do not know that they have to pass a stool, nor do they care sometimes. I wonder if this child is just very delayed to the point of still having a more immature response to passing stools. I agree that a firm stool makes it much easier to know that the stool needs passed. Jody mom to -5 and -8 SCD 21 months
