Guest guest
I'm not Sheila, but we use ElaMax to numb the boys' arms for blood draws. It works wonders. No tears from my older son at all. My younger son still fusses, but just because of the idea of the whole thing, not because it actually hurts to be stuck. I think his arm hurts more because he struggles. ElaMax used to be called Emla Cream and it is topical lidocaine. ElaMax completely numbs the area in 30 minutes. Guest guest
" Where do you get the cream? " I am not exactly sure of its status right now. It was behind the pharmacy counter, but I had to pay for it myself because I was told it was " over the counter " . So, I am not exactly sure what's going on. You might just try calling your local pharmacist and ask them how you can get a tube of ElaMax. They should know whether you need a prescription. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, I don't use it but other parents have posted that they do. They usually find it very effective. Guest guest
You can go to a drug store or pharmacy and ask for a topical anesthetic cream. There are several over the counter brands you don't need a prescription for. We pay $15 for a small 5 gram tube of LMX 4, but it doesn't take much and lasts for quite a while (we give our son the shots 2 times a week). 5/Nick 3- SCD 4 Months
