Guest guest Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 D., I have chills every day, in the absence of fever. I have never discussed this with anyone (that I can remember) so it was interesting to see your post. I have learned not to panic over them, although it used to unnerve me a bit. I was sepsis once and the chills is what I remember most. So, when I started getting them frequently (and they usually require a long HOT bath to get rid of them, and sometimes that doesn't work) I was pretty scared. Now, I don't get worked up unless they are combined with a couple of other symptoms. However, when they do accompany a fever I'm on the phone with the doc, or in the ER ASAP. Maybe others will share their experiences with the chills, also. I'm curious to see what others have to say, as well. (MO) Quote

I do have a question: Is > anyone else here familiar with the feeling of chills in the absence of > fever? Absolutely!! I have had this frequently and lately it has gotten worse. There are now few days when I don't have chills. In past years, it seemed to be an early sign that another round of cholangitis was beginning. Nowadays, the chills are almost daily, but I don't worry until or unless other symptoms (fever, pain, etc.) start to build. Glad you are doing well enough to stay busy with life. Keep it up! Guest guest Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 , I had always ascociated the chills with PSC, it didn't seem I went a day with out having them especially the last 3 yrs. Even in the summer outside in the evening with temps 80F. I would feel cold and need to put a sweater on. You get use to them and a nice long hot bath usually did the trick temporarily. Just watch out for a fever with it, if that happens call your Dr. or go to ER if it's over 99.9 Debbi B -- In , " Drukker " wrote: > > Hi to the group... > > I am not a regular on this forum because I am still well enough to > keep myself busy as if I didn't have PSC. Guest guest Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 I have a theory about the chills with no fever.... I suffer from them sometimes, and I've noticed that sometimes they precede a real fever with chills. My theory is that I'm actually getting the chills because my body temp is slightly off, but not enough to register as an actual fever. I know that my temp usually runs around 97.6 and it will often be a bit higher than that (like maybe 98) when I'm having the chills. That's not enough to make anyone think I have a fever, but remember that chills have more to do with a rising temp than they do with a high temp. That's my theory anyhow! athan Quote
Guest guest Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 I would like to express my thanks to the half a dozen members who have chimed in that THEY TOO are familiar with the chills without fever. Now I feel normal again! D. > > ... a question: Is anyone else here familiar with the feeling of chills in the absence of fever? ... Quote
Guest guest Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 I think that athan's hypothesis of chills signalling a need to raise body temperature is correct. Even if my body temperature is not raised to the point where it can said to be a fever (over 100 or 101 F) it still is responding to something amiss. I would report these chills to my doctor - they probably represent a low grade bacterial cholangitis, which should be treated before it gets out of control. Tim R > ...
