Guest guest
everyone. Just an update. I went to the dentist today and took my zithromax. I have been keeping records and everytime I take zithro, I feel --It just clicked with me...whenever Pete goes to the dentist he also takes zithromax..he'll have a couple of teeth pulled and I'll ask him later how he feels and he says "great"...which is a kinda different response ytou would expect from someone who just got teeth pulled...hmmmmmmmmmmm JanetG

Guest guest
Oh Connie, thanks for all of your useful information. I sure do wish I had my old dr back. He put me on minocin years ago. He was well ahead of his time. I really miss him. I think there is a doc on the list that is only about 20 minutes from me. He is suppose to be really good. I can't remember if he didn't take my insurance or if he wasn't taking new patients. I'll have to check on him again. Thanks again for giving us this useful infomation. I'm going next Friday to see an herbologist, idiologist? He's from Ohio and is only going to be here a short time. I've heard he has done wonders for fibro and other rare diseases. Hey, what can it hurt. He works with you doctor and doesnt change your meds unless okayed by doc. At this point I'll try anything. He works alot with diets. Oh boy am I in trouble.LOL Who knows, maybe he has some answers. Hey Russ, I'll let you know how he is, he's got a clinic in Ohio.LOL Hopefully be at chat tomorrow. Til then, lots of hugs
Guest guest
It must be ESP :-) I called Dr. Franco's office in Riverside, CA today to ask if he treats RP patients. Unfortunately, the office is closed until Monday morning (I think Dr. Franco works on insurance matters on Fridays)....I'll let you know when I find out. I left a message for his nurse. Anyway....the AP (antibiotic protocol, as the rheumatic group calls it) usually involves Minocin to start with and then either Zithromax or IV Clindamycin is added later. My guess is that about half of the doctors across the country who are even using the AP use the Clindamycin or Zithromax in addition to the Minocin. Others, like Dr. Trentham, will only go for the Minocin. On the physician tapes of the doctors conference about using antibiotics for rheumatic diseases, Dr. Trentham says something to the effect that he only goes for the Minocin because he 'represents' Harvard, a conservative institution.....something to that effect. I'm glad I have been on the Zithromax. I hope to get back on after I see (or maybe call) Dr. Franco again. Since I had to go off in April, (due to diareah, sorry) I have noticed my 'might be RP' is more noticable...ears get red, itchy and painful more often, just not severe and flaming enough to show the doc very easily. Hopefully, I can get back on a lower dose maybe. My dosing probably seems strange to most people...I was taking 100mg of Minocin twice a day on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Then, on Tuesdays and Saturdays I took 250mg of Zithromax twice a day. The idea is to get a relatively low level in the system on a regular basis, long term. We have to remember that Minocin is pretty much only 'accepted' for RA. But that is as far as it goes. Some doctors will only use the Minocin because it has, in addition to being an antibiotic, anti- inflammatory and immunomodulary properties. I have also read that it protects or helps cartilage. Dr. Franco goes more along the lines that the Minocin/Zithromax are used to eradicate an infection....as does Dr./Prof. Garth Nicholson at www.immed.org It is finally getting easier to get doctors to prescribe the Minocin, even for the sister diseases to RA...but there is still a long way to go. Hopefully, we can get RP included in the 'accepted' category. So....(sorry for going on and on :-) I'll see what I can do. If you like, I can try to give you guys names of doctors who might be more inclined to go for the AP. The list (from rheumatic) needs updating, though. take care and hugs everyone, Connie H.
