Guest guest
Hi, My 4.5 year old started the diet about 4 weeks ago. The first 2 weeks were very successful, bm's normal immediately and positive behavioral changes. 2 weeks ago I introduced the yogurt and we have been going downhill, with slepp problems and crankiness. I introduced the yogurt 1 tbs a day and got up to 1/2 a cup. Should I continue with the yogurt..the regression has lasted a week already? What kind of starter? 2. giving the yoghurt already now does seem a bit soon, unless you never had a problem with yoghurt before 3. you may have gone too fast. Guest guest
, This is much sooner than we recommend for starting the yogurt for ASD kids. Have you followed the guidelines on the website... www.pecanbread.com .... or the book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle? We usually suggest introducing yogurt after 2 or 3 months on SCD.... and then in much smaller amounts. Be sure to check the website.... click on " goat yogurt " . I'd advise stopping it for now and just giving it time. You can use an acidophilus supplement in the meantime. Guest guest
Hi , My 5.5y.o. ASD son has been strict SCD 1+1/2 years, dairy free. He has been doing great!. He still has some ASD symptoms; still has some (though rare) stimming going on and sound sensitivity. However, he's fully verbal, reading and writing, and alot more social. We tried the cow yogurt a few months into the diet and it was disastrous, major regression. It was definitely too soon and too much yogurt (1tbs daily), and the wrong type of yogurt. So, we stopped and waited a few more months, to start with goat yogurt. When we started the goat yogurt, again we started him off with too much yogurt (1 tbs), and he completely refuse to eat it after awhile. Again, we stopped. Now, I've decided just a week ago to try again. I've given him the goat yogurt made with Custom Probiotics starter. I've started with just 1/2 tsp. with a small dot of honey, every other day. Although, probably too soon to tell, so far, no problems. I've recently came across the goat yogurt protocol, and it suggest starting with even smaller amounts of 1/4 tsp daily. Just to be safe, I start giving him 1/4 tsp daily and see how that goes. It's been a really slow process with this diet, but we've seen some really great things happen over the last year and half, and we are so grateful. Some of the others have suggested you stop the yogurt for awhile, until your child's gut heals a little more, which was really key advice for us. Perhaps, its just a matter of waiting a month or two for more healing. We just wait this long because I was too afraid of the regressions. All the best luck, Lili, mom to 5.5 y.o ASD, SCD 1.5 years.
