Guest guest
! Wow! This is me, from the UU group and just had to chime in here and lend you a shoulder. While my situation is different, With my second son, we noticed the cervical shortening at 22 weeks. I went in for scans every 2 weeks just to see how bad it was shortening. I couldn't have a cerclage because I was leaking amniotic fluid and the surgery would be too risky. I think it would be wise just to keep up on it. If there was a change, you could go on bedrest or be more wary of your body and what you needed to do for the baby. I hope you can either discuss this with the peri or an OB that could monitor you, if you feel you need it! We are all pulling for you and hope that the remainder of your pg is uneventful! Over halfway there!!! Christy M
Guest guest
Christy, did you say you were leaking amniotic fluid? Do you mind sharing more about your situation? In March 03 I noticed a very slight leak at about 20 wks and after lots of convincing I persuaded my OB to see me that evening. The baby looked great on U/S and my fluid level was fine. She did a speculum exam w/ pH paper and checked for " ferning " under the microscope, but ended up sending me home b/c she couldn't be sure that it was amniotic fluid. I ended up back at the hospital that night b/c I was still worried. That time a nurse just had me cough over a slide in the hopes of squirting out some amniotic fluid onto the slide. After a few minutes, my doctor came in to say she'd confirmed that it was in fact amniotic fluid and I would have to deliver. She said trying to maintain the pregnancy was pointless and could only cause me harm and possibly prevent future pregnancies. I was taken directly into L & D and induced. My daughter was born 24 hours later and died shortly thereafter. It's worried me for over a year now that I didn't make the right decision, didn't demand a speculum exam and U/S, didn't wait for a 2nd opinion, and so on, but I wasn't in any condition to think very clearly at the time. I was up front with my OB about my UU from the start and she never thought it was cause for concern, but the more I hear from everyone here, the more I worry that we might have had a chance to save my daughter if I'd seen someone else at the hospital that night. Guest guest
> How long were those of you that were monitored watched? I'm wondering > if I should seek out another doctor and opinion. Although, I'm not > sure someone else would take me as a patient at this point. I've had my cervix monitored since I first started going to the high risk doctors, and ended up with a rescue cerclage at 22w0d. Since then, even with the cerclage, I get my cervix checked via US every two weeks at a minimum, and how well it's doing determines how much they adjust the strictness of my bedrest. Bedrest is truly helpful, at least for me (albeit maddening...). I understand your doctor not wanting to put in a cerclage this late in the game -- it's a risky procedure in the most favorable of conditions. However, I hope your doctor is being as proactive as possible in preventing PTL or a loss, including continuing to check your cervix manually, if not with US, and being ready to put you on bedrest if it starts to shorten. Are you being seen every two weeks? Right now, my cervix is 2cm in length below the cerclage, and Sam's head is just above the stitch (that rascal). Staying flat on my back except for potty trips and a quick shower each day has been working, and so far, I've had no contractions that I know of, and nothing has gotten past the stitch yet. My next milestone is 28wks, just a few days away now! You'll make it to 24wks (that wonderful " viability " milestone) before you know it! -, SU (resected) Loss at 20wks due to uterine rupture along septum 27w2d pregnant with Sam! (not that I'm counting every day or anything...)
