New Orleans in August is no fun--I was there last year at I Chiefs (100%

humidity, 95 degrees, and the lovely smell of the Mississippi River and

French Quarter in Summer). The AAA pulled out of EMS Expo and joined EMS

Today so New Orleans is basically just the NAEMT/Ken Bouvier/EMS Magazine

show. EMS Today is in Baltimore in March--not my favorite city but it draws

volunteers out of the trees of land, Pennsylvania, Virginia and points

north which makes it successful.

Nothing wrong with some selfish indulgence once in a while and if we as in

EMSAT could figure out how to get even half the 1,000 you speak of to JOIN and

come on a cruise I bet we could put some of the hottest and bestus (is that

a word) CEU's on.

I for one have been thinking about doing a 4-7 day cruise but two things

hold me back 1) I have no one I know to go with (female preferred but even a

male [no cracks] would be OK, but going alone is not appealing to me at all).

and 2) I'm just not motivated unless I have some fire or EMS angle for anything

in life. I know I know I have no life but frankly other than taking care of

four kids who don't really need taking care of (unless it involves money)

outside of fire and EMS I have nothing to do. The idea of 4-7 days even

" relaxing " with no fire and or EMS in my life scares me silly! I wonder if I

had a

female in my life if I'd say that?

Anyway I'd love to figure out how to do it and get the TEXAS connection

going on the high sea and make EMSAT that much stronger!

That might be a problem given that The EMS conference is a STATE function in

Also frankly as one who has attended a few hundred (literally) of these

kinds of things Texas has by and far one of the best overall conferences in the

US ( can likely yell you horror stories better then I) so why break a

good thing?

I love the idea of using a cruise to make EMSAT more whole but I think

mixing it with the existing conference would not work at all and may be

counterproductive if tried.

Just back from a 7 day cruise with my 14 year old daughter. No EMS people

but, don't worry, I still got to do some EMS. POPTA by the gift shop. LOL.

An EMS cruise-with some adults instead of teenaged hormones-would be nice

though. LOL. :o)

The state conference gets somewhere near 3,000 people attending. I rather

doubt you could do that on a ship. However, a cruise still sounds like a

neat idea. Why don't you EMSAT people look at what it would take to do it

and maybe have that little trauma conference you attempted?

Maybe even do a joint thing with the Wisconsin people????
